But an expert and Founder of African Cancer Centre, Lagos, Prof. Olu Williams, quickly assured Soyinka that he would “not die of cancer.” Williams, who revealed that Soyinka had the disease because of his old age, said the playwright will only “die with the ailment.”

Students of the University of Jos continued their protests today following yesterday's chaos in the school over what they say is a 100% increase in school fees. ‎The protesting students set fire in front of the school gate this afternoon, insisting that school authority must reduce their fees. The students say the fee was N27,800 but has now been increased to #60,000. They also say they were forced to pay for developmental levy which has never been used for any development within the university. They said all effort by the student union government to speak with the Vice Chancellor of the university Prof. Hayward Babale Mafuyai, was met with a brick wall as the VC refused to negotiate with the students.

Governor Gabriel Suswan of Benue State has called on the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal to set aside his personal ambition and spare the country the unnecessary political tension resulting from his insistence on retaining the speakership position. According to Suswam, the Speaker should resign from his office without further delay. The grand jury has decided not to indict Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson in the death of Michael Brown, the unarmed, black 18-year-old whose fatal shooting sparked weeks of sometimes-violent protests. St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Bob McCulloch announced the decision Monday evening. A grand jury of nine whites and three blacks had been meeting weekly since Aug. 20 to consider evidence. At least nine votes would have been required to indict Wilson. The Justice Department is conducting an investigation into possible civil rights violations that could result in federal charges.

Deadly explosions have occurred in a crowded market in Maiduguri, the capital Borno State on Tuesday morning, the Nigerian Times has learnt. The explosions which may have left a yet to confirmed number of casualties were reported to have been carried out by two suspected female suicide bombers at about 11:30 am. Details later…..

The Police in Calabar, Cross River State yesterday said some hoodlums threw an explosive device into the state secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) located along the Murtala Muhammed Highway. A statement signed by the Police Public Relation Officer, Mr Hogan Bassey said no life was lost in the incident which occurred in the wee hours of the day. “Early today, 24th November, 2014, at about 0535 hours, hoodlums who were unable to penetrate the heavily fortified secretariat by officers and men of the Command, threw an explosive device from behind the premises into the building. The explosion only shattered some louvers on the ground floor. No life was lost nor anybody sustained injury,” the statement read.

The President made this call on Monday in Abuja, when he declared open a two-day roundtable meeting with Special Advisers on Religious Affairs from the 36 States of the Federation and the FCT. The meeting with the theme: Towards Synergising and Interfacing in the Religious Sectors for National Development, was organised by the Offices of the Senior Special Assistants to the President on Islamic and Christian Matters.
