The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) has cleared the air, setting the records straight on the status of the movie, Half of a Yellow Sun and the attendant interest it has generated in certain quarters. In a press statement signed by the agency’s acting head, Corporate Affairs, Caesar Kagho, the NFVCB restated its position that the movie is not banned as speculated and that the board has dutifully exercised due diligence consonant with section 36 (1) (b) of NFVCB Enabling Law ACT 1993, CAP N40 LFN 2004 which stipulates that “a decision on a film shall ensure that such a film is not likely to undermine national security”. The statement said the board has duly communicated the exhibitor of the movie in a letter dated May 27th, 2014 explaining the status of the film and requiring the distributor to expunge/edit some clearly stated objectionable aspects of the movie. Despite losing the Ekiti State Governorship election, Governor Kayode Fayemi  is set  to create additional 18 Council Development Areas based on the recommendations of the White Paper Committee set up by his administration. Already, Governor-elect, Ayo Fayose, has described the move as absurd. In a press statement, the Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Mr. Tayo Ekundayo, said the new council areas will be created from the existing 16 local government areas following a referendum by the State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) and consideration of the outcome of the referendum by the State House of Assembly. They will operate as Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) pending the concurrence of the National Assembly, which would accord them the status of full-fledged local government councils.
