The Lagos Goodluck/Sambo Independent Campaign Group on Friday embarked on a road show to drum up support for the re-election bid of President Goodluck Jonathan. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the road show was led by Sen. Musilu Obanikoro. Supporters and members of the PDP in the state danced through streets from Dopemu Bridge along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, where the rally took off, through major streets in Lagos West senatorial district. It was a huge fanfare as the participants in the show sang while distributing leaflets canvassing support for the Jonathan/ Sambo ticket.

The Presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd), has promised to restructure the Nigeria Army and Police, if elected in the February 14 presidential election. Mr. Buhari made the promise on Thursday in Gusau, Zamfara State, at the inauguration of his campaign. He said that his plan, if it materializes, would boost the efforts of the two security institutions to battle insurgency with renewed vigour.

APC REPS CAUCUS The caucus of the All Progressives Congress in the House of Representatives on Thursday kicked against any plan to postpone the February general elections. It said the provisions of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) on tenure of government and the four-year cycle of elections, must be adhered to “at all times”. The caucus’s stance came on the heels of calls by the National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.), that the elections should be postponed due to the Independent National Electoral Commission’s inability to sufficiently distribute the Permanent Voter Cards to voters.

President Goodluck Jonathan’s wife, Dame Patience Jonathan, on Thursday said nobody or group could threaten her if she decided to visit any part of the country. The president’s wife, who spoke through her media assistant, Ayo Adewuyi, was reacting to threats by some youth groups to disgrace her if she attends the grand rally of the Peoples Democratic Party in Yenagoa next month. Two youth groups – Bayelsa Youth Vanguard and the Mangrove Boys of Bayelsa – had, in separate statements, issued in Abuja and Yenagoa, barred the First Lady from accompanying President Jonathan to the rally in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital.
