Senate receives 2016 budget, AGF audit reports

The Senate on Monday received the 2016 budget and the 2014 Auditor-General of the Federation audit reports. Chairman, Senate Committee on Appropriation, Senator Mohammed Danjuma Goje, presented the 2016 budget report marked “2016 Appropriation Bill, 2016 (SB.212). The report was not debated and no date was assigned for its debate and passage into law. Insiders however said that the budget is likely to be passed Wednesday.

  Owing to allegation that N2billion bribe was traced to his bank account, Justice Abdul Kafarati of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Tuesday, disqualified himself from a suit seeking ‎to stop the ongoing trial of the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, before the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT. Though the suit was scheduled for Judgement, however, Justice Kafarati, said he was left with no option than to hands-off the matter after his attention was drawn to two online publications alleging that he has been compromised by the Senate President.

According to Obasanjo, he met worse when he took power in 1999, but made the best of it. Ese Oruru: Yinusa Granted Bail of N3million

The Federal High Court sitting in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, has allegedly granted bail to Yunusa Dahiru, alias Yellow, the alleged abductor of 14 years old Ese Oruru, to the tune of N3million. This was revealed by a non-governmental organisation, KHAN Initiative, which started the campaign for the freedom of Ese from her abductor. According to a post by the organisation on Twitter and Facebook, Yunusa was granted bail in the sum of N3m with two sureties.

President Muhammadu Buhari has said his administration is in a quandary as to how fix the incessant power problem. Buhari tagged the cul de sac,  “the classic dilemma” over the privatisation of the power sector. He said the privatisation of the sector had yet to show any improvement in the quality of service, saying it was difficult to determine whether it was done in public interest or with profit motive. President Buhari, however, noted that since the privatisation of the sector had started, the process had to be completed. Speaking at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa in Abuja Monday at the commencement of a two-day National Economic Council (NEC) retreat titled: “Nigerian State: Multi-centres of Prosperity”, he said the epileptic power situation in the country was no longer a laughing matter.
