In a statement issued in Lagos by its spokesperson, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, on Tuesday, the party called Justice Adeniyi Ademola’s quitting directive to the affected members of the  House of Representatives  as an exercise in judicial rascality. It added that the judge could not have asked the lawmakers to vacate their seats, because he was not competent to issue such a ruling, as the issue before him was not whether they could defect or not. The party said it would appeal the judgment, while asking the  Chief Justice  of Nigeria (CJN) to sanction the judge for alleged unprofessional conduct.

A snake, on Tuesday, disrupted the passing-out parade of the  National Youth  service Corps (NYSC) Batch “A” at the orientation camp at Tsafe, in Zamfara, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported. The snake, according to eyewitnesses, might have come from one of the dilapidated structures at the camp and could have been in search of food. The eyewitnesses said the snake tried to make its way to the platform where  special guests  on the occasion were seated during the ceremony. Some of the corps members, as well as some of the special guests, took to their heels to avoid the reptile. Wamakko strips deputy of powers, swears in two commissioners

Image
Sokoto State Governor, Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko,  has stripped his deputy, Mukhtari Shagari, of cabinet responsibility. Shagari, a lawyer,  had been overseeing the Ministry of  Science and Technology  until  he was relieved of the position. In a statement made available to Daily Sun in Sokoto, the government stated  that a newly sworn in commissioner, Alhaji Ibrahim Hussain, has been assigned to the portfolio. The development  is a tacit indication of a   cold war  between the governor and his deputy since they both made public their opposite   political platform  few months ago. Recall that while Governor Wamakko defected to the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), his deputy, Shagari, stayed back in the Peoples  Democratic Party  (PDP), the platform on which both of them were elected and re-elected in 2007 and 2012 respectively.

Judgement on Reps defections: Nigerians react

Image
Forty -eight hours after a Federal  High Court  sitting in Abuja stopped defecting lawmakers from changing the leadership of the  House of Representatives , reactions continue to trail the decision. Justice Adeniyi Ademola stopped short of ordering the lawmakers to vacate their seats, saying they had no business remaining in the lower legislative chambers since they left the party that brought them in. Reacting to the judgment, the All Progressives Party (APC) in a  statement issued by the its  Interim National Publicity  Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said Justice Ademola did not order the 37 members of the House of Representatives who defected to the APC to vacate their seats because he is not competent to do so. The party stated that the presiding judge could not have issued such a ruling, as the issue of whether or not they can defect was not before him. The APC hinted that it would appeal the ruling because Justice Ademola’s perpetual injun...
