Local Borno hunters succeed in rescuing 30 of the Chibok schoolgirls from Boko Haram

Image
HUNTERS in Borno State have rescued 30 of the Government Girls Secondary School Chibok pupils abducted by Boko Haram about three months ago after coming across one of the camps where they were being held. On April 14, Boko Haram abducted about 234 schoolgirls from their boarding school as they slept at night and whisked them off to an unknown location. Since then, there has been an international outcry for their release and local people have joined the Nigerian military to search for the girls. Several countries including the US, UK and Israel have all sent military experts to Nigeria to help in the search but so far, all attempts to find the girls have proved elusive. Despite the Nigerian military authorities saying they know where the girls are, no rescue mission has been mounted to release the pupils. Yesterday, however, military sources confirmed that about 30 of the girls are with the Nigerian Army after local hunters helped them escape from their captors. Two other Boko Ha...

Army denies vandalizing BRT Buses in Lagos

Image
Five days after a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) allegedly crushed a lance corporal of the Nigerian Army to death, with its attendant mayhem, in Lagos State, the 81 Division Headquarters in the state yesterday debunked the allegations that soldiers were responsible for vandalising the state-owned commercial buses. The army through its Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Omale Ochagwuba, in a statement made available to newsmen blamed hoodlums, which it accused of hijacking the tense moment to set more than five BRT buses ablaze before order was restored. Ochagwuba confirmed that a lance corporal of the Nigerian Army, was killed by a BRT bus , but the victim was neither riding in a BRT lane nor was the BRT bus that killed him driving in the BRT lane. He added that that the BRT bus in question was neither vandalised nor burnt, but was secured before it was later towed into the barracks for safety, and has since been released to the state government.

Wale Dismisses Meek Mill's Twitter Attack

Image
Wale has brushed off a Twitter attack from fellow rapper Meek Mill after he was accused of failing to support his label mate's new album. Mill took aim at the Pretty Girls hitmaker in a series of posts on Tuesday (08Jul14), a day after announcing plans for his next album Dreams Worth More Than Money, and suggested the stars, who are members of Rick Ross' Maybach Music Group (Mmg) crew, had fallen out some time ago. He tweeted, "Wale just ain't gone tweet a thing about my album.... He's been hating on me long time now ...don't even text me cornball! #UNOTMmg (sic)..." Mill went on to lash out at other hip-hop stars in the music industry too, stating, "I don't need no support...It's about a lot of these dudes really b hating behind closed doors..All these guys that's on the rap scene kno (sic)". Wale responded to the online attack shortly afterwards and shared a snap of an Instagram.com picture he had posted seven weeks ag...

Sound Engineer Sues Over Jay Z Copyright

Image
Jay Z is facing legal action from a sound engineer who is demanding credit for work he allegedly carried out on the hip-hop superstar's Roc-A-Fella Records label. Chauncey Mahan claims he should be named a co-owner of the copyright of six Jay Z albums, including 1999's Vol. 3... Life and Times of S. Carter and 2000's The Dynasty: Roc La Familia, because he was allegedly key to creating the sounds of the releases. He is seeking a declaration from a judge to make his contributions to the projects clear, reports Tmz.com. Interestingly, Mahan was the same producer who was recently investigated as part of an alleged extortion plot over a number of Jay Z's master recordings, which were presumed lost after going missing in 2002. Mahan contacted the star's business partners at Live Nation and reportedly offered to sell them the masters he had stored away in Northridge, California for $100,000 (£58,824). They agreed to a fee of $75,000 (£44,118) and set up a meeting...
