The nominations for the 87th Academy Awards were announced Thursday morning. The nominees for best picture are "American Sniper," "Boyhood," "Birdman," "The Imitation Game," "The Theory of Everything," "Selma," "The Grand Budapest Hotel" and "Whiplash." The nominees for best actor are Steve Carell ("Foxcatcher"), Michael Keaton ("Birdman"), Eddie Redmayne ("The Theory of Everything"), Benedict Cumberbatch ("The Imitation Game") and Bradley Cooper ("American Sniper").

INEC Releases List Of Candidates Cleared For Feb 14 Presidential Election

INEC Chairman, Attahiru Jega The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), yesterday, released the names of 14 presidential candidates and their running mates cleared to contest the February 14 Presidential election in the country. Out of the 28 candidates, 23 possessed either Bachelor’s degrees or the Higher National Diploma (HND) and above, while three, including the former Head of State and Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Muhammadu Buhari tendered either the West African School Certificate (WASC) or its equivalent. One of the candidates has the National Certificate in Education (NCE), while another also had the Nursing and Midwifery certificate.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has commended the invaluable sacrifice of the Nigerian military in keeping the country safe and united in the face of unprecedented forces tugging at the very core of its existence. In a statement, Wednesday, in Abuja, by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, to mark the 2015 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, the party said Nigerians owe the gallant men and women of the Nigerian military a debt of gratitude for their courage, perseverance and sacrifice in defence of all that Nigerians hold dear.

Jonathan, Obasanjo Feud Continues Despite Peace Meeting

A meeting between former President Olusegun Obasanjo and President Goodluck Jonathan and former President, which many hoped would end the frosty relationship between them did not end as expected, indications have emerged. President Jonathan and other top leaders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) were said to have requested for the meeting, but were disappointed by the outcome of the meeting, which reportedly had two clergy men; Pastor E.A. Adeboye and Bishop David Oyedepo, who Obasanjo was said to have deliberately craved their attendance as witnesses. He wanted them to see that it was Jonathan who actually caused the rift between them by reneging on decisions they jointly reached.

They say Africa's richest man Aliko Dangote might be a buyer for the Brooklyn Nets Basketball team which current owner, Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov, is planning to sell. "Sources on Tuesday confirmed a Bloomberg News report stating that Prokhorov has retained Evercore Partners to sell the franchise he acquired majority ownership of in May 2010 for $223 million. A league source said Evercore will gather bids potentially as soon as the end of the month. Sources likewise confirmed a report from Bleacher Report that the struggling Russian economy is a factor." Bloomberg reportsThere are now reports from people with 'knowledge' that Dangote may be interested in buying, either as a fractional owner, or main owner. Time will tell. It'll definitely boost his international recognition
