Election saga: PDP mounts pressure on Jega to drop card-reader machines

More controversies have followed last Saturday’s rescheduling of the general elections that were originally billed to start today with the Presidential elections. And there are also emerging factors that may play out before the new date of March 28, for the Presidential election. President Goodluck Jonathan and Prof Attahiru Jega The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, yesterday, rejected the use of computerised Card Reader Machines by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for accreditation and tracking of information on the Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs. According to INEC, the machine could help in checking rigging as it would display information on any person who has voted. But the PDP now fears that the machine may not make for credible elections as it is said to easily malfunction especially when the battery weak.

EFCC Arrests Murtala Nyako’s Son, Abdul-Aziz

Barely two weeks after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, declared former Adamawa State Governor, Murtala Nyako and his son, Abdul-Aziz, wanted, operatives of the anti- graft agency, this morning arrested the younger Nyako in Gombe, Gombe State. He was immediately flown to Abuja where he is currently being grilled by a crack team of detectives who had been working on the Adamawa investigation for several months. Abdul-Aziz, who was declared wanted by the EFCC in the case of stealing, abuse of office and money laundering, is currently telling investigators all he knows about illicit funds traced to companies where he has interest.

My Constable Will Arrest Any Errant Governor – MBU

The new Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 2, Joseph Mbu, has warned that a constable in the zone will arrest any governor or politician, who conducts himself or herself in an unruly manner at the polling unit during the forthcoming elections. He said this on Thursday in Abeokuta during his official visit to the Ogun State Police Command headquarters, Eleweran, while he was addressing the policemen in the command. Mbu told the men of the command, who would be on electoral duty to keep an eagle eye on everyone coming to the polling units to vote, stating that anyone caught with arms should be arrested instantly. He added that he was in the Ogun police command to encourage and advise his men ahead of the polls.

MASSOB introduces vehicle, driver licences, passport

Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has urged the international community to rezone the country to enable each zone go back and conduct their own elections in the interest of peace. Assistant National Information Director, Mr Sunny Okereafor, made this call while speaking to Daily Sun in Umuahia. He said MASSOB has introduced vehicle plate number, bearing United States of Biafra, drivers and vehicle licences, tax receipt, international passport and currency at the World Bank, which are things that make a people a nation, there is the need for Biafrans to stay on their own.
