Boko Haram abducts 100 female students in Borno

Boko Haram insurgents have abducted about 100 female students of a public school in Borno State who were writing their West Africa Examination Council (WAEC), examinations.
The abducted students, according to security sources, were among the over 250 WAEC/SSCE  candidates of Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok in the southern part of Borno.
Some insurgents were said to have invaded the school on Monday night, broke into the hostels and ordered the girls out in their night wears. “They then forced them into the school bus and other vehicles they brought, shot sporadically and sped off,” a resident said.
Some residents also said the insurgents opened fire on the people, killing over 10 persons even as they set ablaze houses and shops.
It was not clear if any of the school teachers was affected by the attack but sources said some of them might have been killed. A source also told Daily Sun that, “many were wounded,” adding that the attackers carted away foodstuffs from the school stores.

“They  also took away some vehicles from the school premises,” Amos Ahmadu, told journalists in Maiduguri.
The state Commissioner of Police, Lawan Tanko, could not confirm the incident but said he heard about it. He said he was yet to receive any report from his men on the incident.
Chibok is about 141 kilometers away from Maiduguri, Borno State capital and Boko Haram stronghold.  The state government had last month, ordered all schools in the state to end their second term two weeks earlier than their academic calendar following alleged threat on schools by the sect.

Atiku: I Did’t Join APC to Contest for Presidency

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said that he did not join the All Progressive Congress (APC) so as to run for the Presidency in 2015,  but to nurture the party and ensure that good governance is entrenched in Nigeria  come 2015. Atiku who spoke in an interview with the BBC Hausa service, monitored in Kaduna on Monday,  maintained that if it were because of a  presidential ambition, he had clear chances of occupying the number one seat when he was in office with former President Olusegun Obasanjo, or even recently when he was in the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN ).
