The hearing continues into Thursday morning and we'll bring any update as and when we get it.
According to Press Association Sport one senior FIFA official with experience of disciplinary cases, who asked to remain anonymous, believes the biting should be judged to be at least as serious as spitting, which carries a minimum six-game ban which would see Suarez's World Cup brought to an abrupt halt.
However there are influential voices who are trying to bring pressure to bear for the player to be dealt with more leniently.
According to Uruguay newspaper Subrayado, the most powerful figures in South American football gathered in the Copacabana Palace to try to secure a much less severe sanction.
Lawyer speak
Suarez's lawyer Alejandro Balbi believes it's pressure from England and Italy that's led to this investigation.
We'll let you be the judge.
He told Uruguayan radio: "We don't have any doubts that this has happened because it's Suarez involved and secondly because Italy have been eliminated. There's a lot of pressure from England and Italy.
"There is a possibility that they ban him, because there are precedents, but we're convinced that it was an absolutely casual play, because if Chiellini can show a scratch on one shoulder, Suarez can show a bruised and an almost closed eye.
"If every player starts showing the injuries he suffers and they open inquiries for them everything will be way too complicated in the future. We're going to use all the arguments possible so that Luis gets out in the best possible way.
"You shouldn't forget that we're rivals of many and we can be for the hosts [Brazil] in the future. This does not go against what might have happened, but there's no doubt that Suarez is a stone in the shoe for many."
Sav's view
Mirror Football columnist Robbie Savage has also given us his thoughts on Suarez's bite.
This, of course, is the third time the Liverpool striker has bitten an opponent and could be handed a longer ban this time.
But how long do you think it should be? Let us know @MirrorFootball on Twitter.
Ollie Holt's take
Our chief sports writer says there is no conspiracy or witch-hunt in regards to Suarez - just the stupid failings of a repeat offender.
He writes: "Suarez should not be victimised but he should be given a punishment that fits a crime he has now committed three times.
"What he did when he sank his teeth into Chiellini is not as bad as if he had head-butted him or smashed his cheekbone with an elbow.
"He did not harm Chiellini, particularly, but people, understandably, are disgusted by biting in the same way they are appalled by spitting."
Exclusive - Uruguay FA fear FOUR-GAME ban
No decision was made overnight at the Copacabana Palace hotel in Rio de Janeiro, and so discussions at the disciplinary hearing will go into a second day.
And Mirror Sport understands that the Uruguay FA are demanding a quick decision so it doesn't impact on preparations for Saturday's Round of 16 game against Colombia.
Ed Malyon reports that the AUF also fear Suarez could be hit with a four-game ban.
And decide for yourself how long he deserves:
