AYC: Nigeria holds Ivory Coast
Confederation Cup: Wolves win, Dolphins disqualified
THE Flying Eagles of Nigeria, on Saturday, forced their Ivorian counterparts to a 2-2 draw in a last group match of the 2015 African Youth Championship ongoing in Senegal.
The Nigerian side levelled on two occasions after falling behind in as many times. Christian Pyagbara and captain Musa Muhamed accounted for Nigeria’s two goals.
For the Ivorians however, the one point they bagged from the match was too little too late. The draw gave them three points from three matches as against the hosts Senegal’s four. Senegal defeated Congo 4-3 to win the second semi-final ticket and a World Cup place behind Nigeria.
Ghana and Mali complete the list of all-West African countries that have qualified for New Zealand 2015 and in contention for the AYC title.
In the CAF club championships, Warri Wolves defeated Dedebit of Ethiopia 2-0 in a CAF Confederation Cup match played in Warri on Saturday.
However, Nigeria’s other campaigners in the competition, Dolphins FC has been disqualifed for its inability to meet up with kick-off schedule against Club Africain of Tunisia, in Tunis.
