EPL: Moses scores, United labour as Chelsea stay five points clear
Goals from Victor Moses and Mame Diouf gave Stoke victory over Everton to keep Mark Hughes’s side on course for their highest Premier League finish.
Moses powered a header into the top corner on 32 minutes from Phil Bardsley’s excellent cross.
Diouf prodded in a late second after Marko Arnautovic’s shot hit the post.
The Potters finished a record ninth last season, on 50 points, and Hughes’s side are currently eighth, on 42 points, with 10 games still to play.
And Ashley Young capitalised on a late error by Tim Krul to give Manchester United victory at Newcastle.
Goalkeeper Krul had made a string of fine saves but played Mehdi Abeid’s backpass to Young and the winger finished well.
Manchester United defender Jonny Evans and Newcastle United striker Papiss Cisse appeared to spit at each other in a heated first-half exchange.
Angel Di Maria was substituted in the 59th minute after a subdued display.
At Upton Park, Chelsea stayed five points clear at the top of the Premier League as a hard-fought win at West Ham kept them on course for a first title in five years.
Eden Hazard headed the visitors ahead from Ramires’s right-wing cross, reports the BBC.
Ramires shot against the post for the visitors after the break before having a header brilliantly saved by Adrian.
West Ham troubled Chelsea throughout but wayward finishing ensured the visitors survived a nervy second half to hold on to another crucial victory.
