Despite APC’s claims, Rivers people are with me – Wike
The governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, Wednesday, said the people of the state were still with him despite the boastful utterance by the All Progressives Congress, APC, that it would upturn his victory at the election petitions tribunal.
Wike stated this when some members of the Delta State House of Assembly paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House in Port Harcourt, adding that Rivers State would continue to belong to the Peoples Democratic Party.
The governor, who said no amount of intimidation would change the mandate the people of the state gave to him on April 11, 2015, said: “We are not worried by their (APC) claim that they have the tribunal. All we know is that Rivers State will always remain a PDP state. The people are with us.
“While the APC were busy embarking on negative propaganda because they had excess money, we were with the people at the grassroots selling our programmes to them. That was why they voted for us massively.”
According to Wike, his administration would always maintain separation of power between the three arms of government and that the state House of Assembly will never again sit in the Government House, pledging to promote the independence of the legislature by ensuring that the funds of the state Assembly would come as part of first line charge.
“You don’t need to pocket the legislature before you think you are safe in government. What is needed is cooperation with the state Assembly in the interest of good governance,” he said.
The governor also said his administration would continue to encourage regional cooperation in the South-South region for sustainable development.
Speaking earlier, the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Mr. Monday Okemeni, commended Wike for returning Rivers State to the PDP, adding that the governor had proved the APC wrong with his political clout.
He described Wike as a leading light in the political engineering of the country, and that the governor would play a key role in the promotion of development of the South-South.
