President Buhari to Inaugurate National Economic Council Today

President Muhammadu Buhari is set to inaugurate his administration’s National Economic Council (NEC) today in Abuja.



The council is expected to draw up a roadmap that will actualise the economic policies of the new administration, Leadership reports.

As is the tradition, the council which is to be chaired by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, and comprising of all the 36 state governors will also hold its first session.

The permanent secretaries of the ministries of finance, national planning, and Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor will also be members of the council. Section 18 of the 1999 Constitution provides for the NEC to serve as an advisory body to the president on the economy.
