We are under pressure to sanction Sheriff –Makarfi
THE Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) caretaker committee under the leadership of former Kaduna State governor, Senator Ahmed Makarfi has revealed that it was under pressure to sanction former chairman of its dissolved national working committee, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff.
Saturday Sun gathered that the former Borno State governor has rebuffed efforts made by the national caucus of the party to make him renounce his claim to the position of national chairman of the main opposition party.
Addressing newsmen on Monday in Abuja, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff said he would only renounce his claim to the office of national chairman once the Senator Ahmed Makarfi committee, a creation of the national convention of the party was dissolved.
Speaking further on his peace terms, the former Borno State governor said the fresh convention slated for August 17 in Port Harcourt must hold in Abuja and insisted that his leadership and Senator Makarfi team must present 10 members of each faction to organise the fresh convention.
But addressing newsmen yesterday in Abuja, shortly after the inauguration the party zoning committee spokesman of caretaker committee, Dayo Adeyeye frowned at the intransigence of Senator Sheriff and disclosed that “the committee has been under pressure to wield the big stick against Sheriff and his group.”
