Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift Twitter beef explained
We weigh in on the Nicki and Taylor VMA Twitter feud.
Last night Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift fired up a hectic Twitter battle, when Nicki expressed shock, disbelief and anger that she wasn’t nominated for Video of the Year at the MTV Video Music Awards.
If I was a different "kind" of artist, Anaconda would be nominated for best choreo and vid of the year as well.
If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for vid of the year
Taylor just assumed that Nicki’s twitter rant was directed at her and suggested that she shift the blame to one of the men nominated in the category. Because feminism
@NICKIMINAJ I've done nothing but love & support you. It's unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot..
.
We’re not saying that Taylor is wrong for shifting the conversation to ‘sexism’. But it is a little ironic, because her track ‘Bad Blood’ is rumoured to be about her apparent feud with Katy Perry. #justsaying
Let’s be real. Nicki’s ‘Anaconda’ video was by far the biggest video of 2014, broke the VEVO record for most views and caused a wave of parodies, spoofs, copycats, jokes and memes.
Let’s take a look at the other nominees, shall we.
1. Beyoncé – ‘7/11’
2. Ed Sheeran – ‘Thinking Out Loud’
3. Taylor Swift ft. Kendrick Lamar – ‘Bad Blood’
4. Mark Ronson ft. Bruno Mars – ‘Uptown Funk’
5. Kendrick Lamar – ‘Alright’
Just by cultural impact alone, it’s really hard to see why ‘Anaconda’ did not make the cut.

U couldn't go on social media w/o seeing ppl doing the cover art, choreo, outfits for Halloween...an impact like that & no VOTY nomination?
But still Nicki remains firm that Taylor was not the intended victim.
Huh? U must not be reading my tweets. Didn't say a word about u. I love u just as much. But u should speak on this. @taylorswift13
She did however post that she will be on stage to accept her Video of the Year award. Could we have another Kanye-Beyoncé moment on our hands?
This is not the first time that Nicki talks about the way white culture appropriates black culture and then makes it ‘popular.’ And cultural appropriation has really been a hot topic lately. 16-year-old actress Amandla Stenberg called out 17-year-old Kylie Jenner for appropriating black culture without expressing a genuine interest in black issues. And we think the bigger picture might have gotten lost somewhere between the long string of tweets and sub-tweets
Oh but trust me. I'll be on that stage to collect my awards for vid of the year. Feeling Myself & Anaconda.
When the "other" girls drop a video that breaks records and impacts culture they get that nomination.
So, do you think that she has a valid point?
