Thousands of aggrieved Students of the Federal University  Otuoke in Ogbia Community, the country home of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, on Thursday shut down academic activities in the institution following the hike of fees by the management of the University. THE All Progressives Congress (APC) caucus in the House of Representatives, on Wednesday, said it would go ahead with the party’s directive on 2014 budget estimate consideration, saying all arsenal would be deployed to stop the passage of the budget estimates. The APC caucus in the House also picked holes in the budget estimates currently awaiting consideration as a budget that had no effect on Nigerians. The minority leader in the House, Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila, while briefing newsmen, said “we will not support a budget that does nothing for the people we represent.

ABUJA—Senators elected on both the PDP and APC platforms, yesterday, united against the Co-ordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, blaming her for the country’s economic woes. They specifically accused the minister of imposing the economic policies of the International Monetary Fund, IMF and the World Bank on Nigeria.

There were several reports at the time that she was caught cheating. 9ice actually started the cheating rumours by making a song where he said his woman cheated on him with a friend. Ohanaeze Ndigbo, a socio-cultural organisation of the Igbo, has warned the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) to stop threatening the former Chief of Army staff, Lieutenant-General Azubuike Ihejirika, or face the wrath of Ndigbo. The President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo,  Anambra State chapter, Elder Chris Eluemunoh, stated this in reaction to the comment by NEF threatening to drag Ihejirika to the International Criminal Court (ICC) at the Hague for alleged extra-judicial killings.

T he  Special Adviser to the President on Political Affairs, Alhaji Ahmed Gulak has challenged the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC, and the media community to focus on critical issues that will determine the agenda for the 2015 general elections rather than concentrate on bashing President Goodluck Jonathan and threatening mayhem, if the election results did not favour them. Gulak said the mass media was making itself a willing tool in the hands of the political opportunists in APC, whose stock in trade was to abuse the office and person of Mr. President because they had nothing to offer Nigeria. In a telephone interview in Lagos, yesterday, Gulak said: “I hold the media in highest esteem and I expect them to be guided by the ethics of their profession, to be fair to all sides.”

11 PDP senators defect to APC

The rank of the APC in the Senate swelled Wednesday with the defection of 11 Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, senators to the All Progressives Congress, APC. Among the senators that defected are Bukola Saraki, Mohammed Ndume, Danjuma Goje and Abdullahi Adamu. The senators communicated their decision to decamp to the APC in a letter addressed to the Senate President, David Mark. There are reports that some more senators could decamp in the coming weeks.

Shekarau Says No Democracy In APC, Declares Loyalty To PDP

Hundreds of supporters and well-wishers of former governor of Kano state, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau gathered at his Mundubawa residence on Wednesday where he denounced his membership of the All Progressive Congress (APC) with a verdict that the party lacked leadership structure and internal democracy. He declared his membership and loyalty to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He regretted that six months after its registration, APC leadership has refused to conduct elections into the national, state, local government and ward executives, adding that no single member of the party has been duly registered.

Justin Bieber, facing assault charge in Canada, turns himself in

Justin Bieber was charged Wednesday with assaulting a limousine driver in Toronto a month ago, police said. Bieber arrived at a Toronto police station for booking Wednesday evening amid a chaotic scene as determined photographers, reporters, screaming fans and the curious converged around his SUV. About a dozen Toronto police officers shoved their way through the crowd to escort Bieber, getting him through the door only after a struggle.

Senate aide who killed himself left final message

  A newly surfaced letter written by Jesse Ryan Loskarn gives details on why the former U.S. Senate aide killed himself after getting arrested last month for possessing child pornography. Loskarn, who was found dead Thursday,  wrote in the letter  that he identified with the images he purchased because he had been sexually abused, himself, as a child.
