El-Rufai Declares State Of Emergency On Tomatoes

The governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir el-Rufai, yesterday declared a state-of-emergency on the tomato in the state, saying that 80 per cent of tomato farms in the state have been ravaged by an exotic pest, called tomato blight ( Tuta Absoluta) with over 200 farmers in three local government areas of the state losing about N1billion. el-Rufai who addressed newsmen at the Correspondent Chapel through his Commissioner of Agriculture and Forestry yesterday said, already some officials of the ministry have been sent to Kenya to liaise with experts and return with a solution.

NNPC failed to remit N2.23trn to federation account in 2005 – 2013 – NEITI

  Minister of solid minerals and chairman of Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI), Kayode Fayemi, has disclosed the non-remittance of $12.9 billion (N2.23trn) by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to the Federal Government between 2005 and 2013. The disclosure, which was contained in an audit report carried out by NEITI and focused on all aspects of the extractive industries, showed that the funds were the sum of dividends, interest and loan payment from the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG). The report indicted the NNPC for failing to remit $3.8 billion revenues for itself and its subunit in 2013.

WHO says hospital bombing in Syrian coastal city killed 43

  A suicide bomber who targeted a hospital in a Syrian coastal city the previous day killed 43 people, the World Health Organization said Tuesday, as an activist group raised the overall death toll from the day's unprecedented wave of attacks on government strongholds to 154. Most of those killed in Monday's explosion at the Jableh National Hospital in the city of Jableh were patients and visiting family members, but three doctors and nurses were also among the dead, said WHO. The hospital, which was taking in victims from at least three other blasts that hit in the city on Monday — including one at a crowded bus station — was badly damaged and is no longer operational, WHO also said.

Kenya: Police Find Gun They Say May Have Killed Jacob Juma

  Police say they have recovered a gun believed to have been used to kill controversial businessman Jacob Juma. A statement from the Inspector General's office indicates that ballistic examination of two empty cartridges recovered from the scene "show that they were from an AK-47 rifle recovered during recent encounters with criminals." It also pointed out that the analysis of phone records is complete and valuable data has been extracted from them. The statement further indicated that the detectives have so far recorded statements from 28 people, among them his widow Miriam.

The application was made by advocate Norman Makhubela on Tuesday at the Johannesburg High Court‚ sitting at the Palm Ridge Magistrate's Court. Manqele‚ 26‚ was found guilty of murdering Habedi‚ 37‚ in December and sentenced to 12 years behind bars in March.

Body parts retrieved from MS804 crash site suggest there was an EXPLOSION on board, says Egyptian forensic official

Human remains retrieved from the EgyptAir 804 crash site point to an explosion on board, an Egyptian forensic official said today. The official is part of the investigation team that has personally examined the body parts taken to a Cairo morgue. He said all 80 pieces brought to the capital so far were small and that 'there isn't even a whole body part, like an arm or a head.' The official, who declined to be named, added that 'the logical explanation is that it was an explosion' that may have brought down the jet in the Mediterranean.
