Vice President Guy Scott was sworn in today as the interim president of Zambia following the death of Zambian president, Michael Sata yesterday Oct. 28th after a long protracted illness. This makes Mr Scott, who is of Scottish descent but born in Zambia, the first white president in Africa since apartheid. Guy Scott, 70, became Vice-president of Zambia in 2011 and will serve as interim-president pending when the country holds fresh elections for a new president within 90 days. The Zambian constitution makes it impossible for Scott to be president because his parents were not born in Zambia.

The Speaker of Nigeria’s House of Assembly, Aminu Tambuwal, has formally defected from the People’s Democratic Party, PDP to the All Progressive Party, APC. The speaker made the announcement on October 28th during the plenary session of the House. In a short speech, the speaker said his defection was born out of the yearning of his people in Sokoto State. There are speculations he is planning to contest for governor of Sokoto State. The House has adjourned seating till December 3rd. Aminu Tambuwal who became Speaker of the House of Reps on the platform of the PDP has been asked to resign. In a statement, the party asked Tambuwal to do the needful.

Sahara Reporters report that some members of the Abia state chapter of the APC engaged in a free for all fight at the extra-ordinary non-elective convention which held today October 29th at the Old Parade Ground, Abuja. According to reports,the fight broke out between two factions who were fighting for the chairmanship of the party in their state. A 22 year old woman identified as Ifeoma Okechukwu has been arrested after she allegedly killed an unidentified man who she claimed tried to rape her at her Atlantic View Estate, Alpha Beach Road, Lekki home where she lived with her uncle. The incident happened on Monday October 27th.
