Marlon Wayans to host MTV Africa Music Awards

MTV Base  (DStv Channel 322) has revealed that multi-talented US actor, producer, stand-up comedian, writer and film director  Marlon Wayans  will be the official host for the  2014 MTV Africa Music Awards.   Taking place at the ICC, Durban on 7 June,  The MTV Africa Music Awards  is brought to you by KwaZulu-Natal Province  in association with  Absolut  and  The City of Durban .  South Africa Tourism  is also a partner to the  MAMA .   Marlon Wayans  first found fame with the TV show “In Living Color”, the highly acclaimed sketch comedy show that helped launch the careers of such future stars as Jim Carrey and Jamie Foxx. He also co-starred in the comedy sitcom “The Wayans Bros”, a largely autobiographical show based on the brothers' real relationship and personalities. 

Caleb University Students To Pay For Damaging School

Caleb University students are to pay for damages incurred on the school when on Wednesday, 14th May  they went on a protest in the school . It seems all students are going to bear the cost of the damages regardless of whether they participated or not.  The students went on a rampage destroying school property after a school security personnel disrupted a Muslim student’s prayers. The students allegedly had other grievances as well.  Caleb University asked male students to pay N100k and female students to pay N50k. Here’s part of the text sent out. CUL Parents and Students are hereby notified that school resumes  Mon, June 2 . Exams start  Mon, June 9 . Manchester United’s veteran left-back Patrice Evra has signed an extension to his contract, keeping him at the club for one more year. There were speculations that a number of players would have to leave the club after a very poor showing in the league, but the left-back has agreed an extension. “We can confirm that Patrice Evra has extended his contract at Manchester United for another year,” United posted on their official Twitter account.

When Rapper  Yasiin Bey , formerly known as  Mos Def , decided to move to South Africa from the U.S., we’re not sure if he considered how hard it would be to come back. According to reports,  Yasiin was scheduled to perform at the summer festival Together Boston, but had to cancel due to immigration issue. “We regret to inform you that due to immigration / legal issues Yasiin Bey is unable to enter back into the United States and his upcoming U.S. tour has been canceled, including May 15th, Together Boston’s show at The Wilbur Theatre,” a statement from Together Boston said. “Individual ticket refunds for this show are available at point of sale.”

After reports surfaced about Child Protective Services investigating  the controversial photo with 13-year-old Willow Smith lying in bed next to  20-year-old actor and friend Moises Arias,  the Smiths’ questioning hasn’t ended just yet and Moises himself may be hearing from Child Protective services soon.  According to RadarOnline,   the program would like to speak with Moises even though his questioning would be voluntary. The organization has already spoken with Willow twice — once, with her parents, and the second time, with Social Services — and with Will and Jada twice as well.  “Moises is under no obligation to talk to authorities,” the source said to RadarOnline. “Social workers just want to make sure there is proper adult supervision  of the children in Will and Jada’s house.” The source also said that the investigation won’t be finished until the next few weeks and no charges have been made against Will and Jada so far. Angry Anton Purisima, 62, has filed a 22-page lawsuit demanding two undecillion dollars – $2,000,000,000,000, 000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 – for injuries including an infected middle finger after he was nipped by a “rabid” dog on a bus. Mr Purisima also complains that “a Chinese couple took unauthorised pictures” of him in hospital. Islamic leader to host day of prayer over Boko Haram

The leader of Muslims on Friday announced plans to host a national day of prayer in the capital as part of an effort to overcome Boko Haram's brutal Islamist insurgency. The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar III, has invite  prominent Muslim leaders to the National Mosque in Abuja on Sunday. The "National Muslims Prayers for Peace and Security in Nigeria" aims to help the country in "overcoming the current security challenges facing the country" a statement printed in several national newspapers said. The call follows an open letter to the Sultan written by Shehu Sani, a prominent northern rights activist and author who has been part of several past efforts to end Boko Haram's five-year deadly uprising through dialogue. Sani said Nigeria's top cleric needed to do more to help secure the release of more than 200 schoolgirls held hostage by Boko Haram, whose mass April 14 abduction from a school in Chibok in the northeast has drawn w

Brazil faced new protests and strikes Friday as bus drivers continued their walkout in Sao Paulo's suburbs and Rio de Janeiro braced for demonstrations 20 days from the World Cup. The bus drivers' strike stranded commuters in 10 towns in the greater Sao Paulo metropolitan area for a second day. It came on the heels of a two-day strike by their colleagues in the city center that affected more than a million people and caused transport chaos in the country's economic capital. The suburban drivers are demanding a 10-percent salary increase, like their counterparts in the city. "Only 13 buses left the garage" in the suburb of Osasco, said union spokesman Roberto Meiado, quoted by news website G1. Sao Paulo, Brazil's largest city, has 20 million people in its greater metropolitan area, and buses are the backbone of its public transportation network.

Gaza rocket hits Israel

Palestinian militants in Gaza fired a rocket which struck southern Israel on Friday, without causing casualties or damage, following a weeks-long lull, the army said. A spokesperson told AFP it struck open ground in the Shaar Hanegev area. Also on Friday shots were fired at Israeli soldiers operating near the Gaza border fence, military spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Peter Lerner said. "Forces fired in response. No injuries reported," Lerner wrote on Twitter. Over 100 projectiles fired by militants in the Gaza Strip, ruled by the Islamist movement Hamas, have crashed into Israel since the start of 2014, according to military data. But the Israel-Gaza border region has been largely quiet this month, with the last rocket fire on the Jewish state dating back to 1 May.

Google making 3D tablet - report

  Google next month will start cranking out prototypes of a 3-D tablet designed to give users immersive experiences that could include virtual reality, according to US media reports. The tablet will have a 7-inch display and an array of sophisticated cameras, sensors and software, the Wall Street Journal said in a story citing unnamed sources. Google on Friday said they had nothing to announce. The tablet was reported to be part of a Project Tango worked on by a special team at the California-based technology firm. The project was said to involve giving advanced mapping and virtual reality capabilities to mobile devices powered by Google's free Android software. Nearly 42% of people in the United States used tablets at least once a month last year and that figure was expected to top 46% this year, according to industry tracker eMarketer
