United to sell Valdes for snubbing reserve game – Van Gaal

Manchester United goalkeeper Victor Valdes will be sold after manager Louis van Gaal claimed he “refused to play” in the reserves. The 33-year-old Spain international was a surprise omission from the pre-season squad currently touring the US. “He doesn’t follow my philosophy. There is no place for someone like that,” said Van Gaal of his January signing.

Service chiefs assume office today

The new Service Chiefs who were appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari, are, Chief of Defence Staff, Maj.Gen. Abayomi Gabriel Olonishakin;  Chief of Army Staff, Maj.Gen. T.Y. Buratai; Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas; Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Sadique Abubakar; and Chief of Defence Intelligence, Air Vice Marshal Monday Riku Morgan.

A former President, Olusegun Obasanjo has explained why he chose the late former President Umaru Yar’ Adua as his successor. Obasanjo said only Yar’ Adua was upright among the rest members of the PDP, adding that the rest contenders were corrupt. The ex-general said one of the people who wanted to succeed him in 2007 was “stinkingly corrupt” and that the only way he (Obasanjo) could justify himself before man and God was to go for Yar’Adua.

Senior Civil Servants Demand N46,000 Minimum Wage

Against the backdrop of worsening hardship facing civil servants, the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria has demanded N46,000 as minimum wage for workers. The Secretary-General of ASCEN, Basir Lawal, said in Lagos Wednesday that the current N18,000 minimum wage was no longer acceptable. According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), he said the new wage being sought by workers was arrived at after the association’s meeting with the National Public Service Joint Negotiating Council.
