Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Tony Anenih, on Wednesday said he stepped down from his position so that President Goodluck Jonathan could emerge the new BoT chairman. In a one-page letter he signed and sent to President Goodluck Jonathan dated May 20, 2015 and titled:

Canadian police arrest 10 youths suspected of trying to join ISIS

TORONTO – Canadian police arrested 10 youths at Montreal's Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport last weekend who are suspected of wanting to go to Iraq and Syria to join the Islamic State group, a government official said Tuesday. The official confirmed the arrests late Tuesday, but did not have any other details. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk about the case.

Burundi police on Tuesday fired teargas and beat protesters demanding President Pierre Nkurunziza end his bid for a third term next month, in a resurgence of unrest that has stoked fears of ethnic conflict in Africa's Great Lakes. A Reuters photographer said at least eight of the flag-waving and chanting demonstrators were dragged off by police. Some in the crowd responded by pelting officers with stones and rocks.

Malaysia and Indonesia said Wednesday they would no longer turn away migrant vessels, responding to world pressure by offering to take in a wave of boatpeople provided that they could be resettled or repatriated within a year. The two nations, along with Thailand, have sparked outrage by preventing vessels overloaded with starving migrants from Bangladesh and from Myanmar’s ethnic Rohingya minority from landing on their shores.

Iraq’s government has called for volunteers to fight against Islamic State and help retake the city of Ramadi. A cabinet statement said a voluntary recruitment drive was necessary to fill shortages in squads in the west of Anbar province. Thousands have fled Ramadi since its capture by IS on Sunday. Meanwhile, the US National Security Council said it was considering “how best to support local ground forces”.

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal produced what was described as the “greatest speech of all time” to steal the show at the club’s player of the year awards evening.
