In the shadow of a murder, Britain to vote on EU membership

  Britons will shape the future of the United Kingdom and Europe on Thursday when they decide whether to stay in the European Union following a campaign that has shown the potency of anti-establishment feeling in the West. The vote comes a week after the murder of a lawmaker in the street left many voters wondering whether the campaign rhetoric on both sides - warnings of economic disaster versus uncontrolled immigration - had gone too far in a country considered a paragon of stability.

  The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arrested a former Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Andrew Yakubu. The anti-graft agency has equally arrested the chairman of Atlantic Energy Drilling Concepts Nigeria Limited, Jide Omokore.

A’Ibom to dissolve LGs’ caretaker c’ttees

  THE nine-member Local Government Caretaker Committee in Akwa Ibom State inaugurated in July 2015, will be dissolved soon as the one year tenure expires next month. The state governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel announced this, weekend, during the monthly prayer meeting held at Latter House Chapel, Governors Lodge, Uyo.

Senate summons ministers, Emefiele, others over MTN fine

Nigeria’s Senate has accused the government of “short-changing” the country by reducing the fine of mobile phone giant MTN from an original $5.2bn to $1.7bn. The Senate had summoned top government officials, to explain what it describes as the “ridiculous settlement payment plan of the fine imposed on MTN Nigeria by the Nigerian Communications Commission(NCC). The NCC had directed all telecom providers in the country to register subscribers and disconnect erring subscribers. MTN did not meet the deadline to do so.
