Microsoft sues Samsung over Android patent fees

Microsoft is suing Samsung in a dispute over Android patent fees. Microsoft says the South Korean firm failed to pay it on schedule for the use of its inventions and has begun legal action in New York. In a blog, the US firm said Samsung had used  Microsoft's takeover of Nokia's handset unit  "as an excuse to breach its contract". Samsung has said: "We will review the complaint in detail and determine appropriate measures in response." The case marks the first time that Microsoft has launched legal action against Samsung. The two companies have a long-running partnership, due to the Asian manufacturer's sale of Windows PCs and Windows Phone handsets.

Breaking News: Lagos State Doctor 'Contracts' Ebola

Nigerian authorities say they have confirmed a second case of Ebola in Africa's most populous country, an alarming development after a man who flew by plane to the country died of Ebola. Nigerian Health Minister Onyebuchi Chukwu said Monday that the second person with Ebola is a doctor who had helped treat Patrick Sawyer, the Liberian-American man who died of Ebola in late July. Sawyer, who was traveling to Nigeria on business, became ill while aboard a flight and Nigerian authorities immediately took him into isolation. They did not quarantine his fellow passengers, and have insisted that the risk of additional cases was minimal. Nigeria is the fourth country to report Ebola cases and at least 728 other people have died in Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia.

A young mentally challenged woman caused a stir in Aba, Abia State at the weekend when she gave birth to a set of female twins on a heap of refuse and stoned one to death before the police were invited. DailySun reportsan unknown person impregnated the woman, in her mid 20s and whose name could not be ascertained as at press time, late last year. Sources said that in the wee hours of Saturday, she gave birth to two girls without any assistance on top of a heap of garbage close to an AGIP filling station at Alaoji, along the Ikot Ekpene Road, near Aba.

Icon mag apologizes to 2face over pregnancy story after he sued for N100m

Weeks after 2face Idibia slammed a N100million lawsuit against soft-sell magazine, Icon Weekly, after they published a story claiming he had cheated on his wife and impregnated a banker, (read  here ) the magazine has apologized to the singer and have withdrawn their story, accepting that it was a false publication. Apple closes acquisition of Beats music

Apple has closed its $US3 billion deal for Beats, the high-end audio equipment and streaming music service, a tie-up that could allow the iPhone maker to reach new audiences. Workers said they were terrified the virus could spread globally through  the busy international hub  from the West African country which is in the grip of the deadly epidemic. The woman, said to be 72, became ill on the gangway after she left a Gambia Bird jet with 128 passengers on board. She died in hospital on Saturday. Ebola has killed 256 people in Sierra Leone. Ebola: Ghana bans flights from Nigeria

Sequel to the Ebola pandemic in the West African sub region, the Ghanaian authorities have banned all flights from Nigeria and other West African countries.   Other  countries affected by the ban  are   Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone. The Managing Director of the Ghana Airport Company, Charles Asare, said the measure was part of elaborate emergency response the authorities are implementing to contain the virus.  While hundreds have died from Ebola in Guinea, Sierra Leone, and Liberia, the only confirmed case of the virus in Nigeria involved a Liberian man who died in Lagos on arrival from Monrovia last week.  The Nigerian government said those who were in contact with the man were being quarantined. No additional case has been established in the country, the government insists.  Despite the lone case, Nigeria has maintained routine flights to top destinations in Europe and the United States- although a few countries have issued travel advice to Nigeria.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) over the weekend had declared that the EVD had spiralled out of control. Sources close to Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola of Lagos State informed THISDAY over the weekend that there were frantic efforts by the governor to contact President Goodluck Jonathan before his departure to the United States on Saturday night to discuss the option of closing the borders with other West African countries.
