Confusion in Adamawa as Governor Nyako, Assembly Speaker, others escape death from “friendly fire”

Governor  Murtala Nyako Soldiers were shooting to scare off Boko Haram Adamawa state governor, Murtala Nyako, and the  speaker  of the state House of Assembly, Umar Fintiri, on Friday narrowly escaped bullets fired by some soldiers stationed in Shuwa town, in Michika  Local Government  Area of the state, a witness has told PREMIUM TIMES. Mr. Nyako and his team were on a condolence visit to Michika and Madagali local government areas following attacks there on Wednesday by gunmen suspected to be members of the outlawed Boko Haram sect .

Gunmen Attack Adamawa State Governor’s Convoy

The  convoy  of the  governor  of Adama State, Murtala Nyako was attacked by gunmen  believed  to be Boko Haram insurgents earlier today. The  incident  occurred at Shuwari area of the State, as the governor was returning from paying a condolence visit to victims of Boko Haram  attacks  two days ago. The governor reportedly escaped in an escort  vehicle  and no casualties were recorded.

Benin govt sponsoring smuggling into Nigeria — CANMPEL

CHEMICAL and  Non metallic  Employers Federation of Nigeria has accused the government and people of  Benin Republic  of deliberately sabotaging the Nigerian economy through state sponsored smuggling. At Idiriroko border Making the accusation, yesterday, the President of the federation, Mr. Devakumar Edwin, who is the  Managing Director  of Dangote Cement said that industries in the country were folding up not because of power and infrastructural challenges but because Benin Republic was sponsoring smuggling of low quality products that are cheaper than locally produced goods into Nigeria. Edwin said industry membership of his federation that stood at 145 has dwindled to 92 with a total loss of 270, 000 jobs in the last few years, adding that more companies were at the verge of folding up. The Abiola family believes their late patriarch deserves more than a centenary award.

The family of the late M.K.O Abiola has rejected the posthumous Centenary award to the winner of the 1993 Nigeria’s  presidential election . Kola Abiola, the eldest son of the late politician and businessman, confirmed on Friday that the award was “not appropriate.” “For us, what the government is doing is laudable. But our family will only accept what is appropriate. If what they are trying to give him is a  gold award  for the centenary, we don’t consider that to be appropriate,” Mr. Abiola said. “With a gold centenary award, it means we have not left where we were when they tried to rename the  University of Lagos  after him. We said then that it was inappropriate,” he added. The  Federal Government  had shortlisted 100 persons to be honoured with Centenary awards as part of Nigeria’s Centenary celebration.

NGO defrauds 327 women using Dame Jonathan’s name

The Police in Delta State has uncovered a Non-Governmental Organization, the Women Relief and Restoration Initiative, currently defrauding women in the name of President Goodluck  Jonathan  wife’s name. The NGO, according to the state Police  Public Relations Officer , DSP Celestina Kalu, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, is not only based in Asaba but also in Anambra State. One Anene Nwokoye and Amaechi Ndah after defrauding have been arrested to that effect after a failed attempt to defraud Monu Olubunmi of 5, Afadia, Umoji, Asaba, Delta State of N1.6 million. The PPRO said investigations have shown that the suspects have defrauded over 327 women in Asaba metropolis of money running to millions of naira.

Samuel Eto’o lied about his age, He is 39 not 32 says his daughter’s mum.

A week after Chelsea boss   Jose Mourinho   was secretly filmed saying he thinks   Samuel Eto ’o is older than his age, his ex Anna Barranca has spoken out saying Eto’o is way older than 32.“The problem with Chelsea is I lack a scorer. I have Eto’o but he is 32 years old, maybe 35, who knows?’ Mourinho said in a private conversation but it was secretly recorded and published on a sports website. It has since been taken down. Now Eto’o’s  former  lover, Anna Barranca, who is 43years old and has an 11year  old daughter , Annie,  with the footballer said he’s not 35, but 39 going on 40. The Italian  hairdresser  (pictured above with her  daughter ) told The Sun UK “I think Samuel is not 35 he is more 39. Samuel was born in 1974 and so that makes him 39 now.’ She claims she was informed of Eto’o’s true age when they were dating by a friend who grew up with Eto’o in Cameroon.

Suspension: Sanusi Loses Round One In Court

Suspended Governor of the Central   Bank of Nigeria , Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi’s bid to return to  office  suffered a setback,Wednesday as the Abuja Division of the Federal  High Court , dismissed an ex-parte motion that sought for his immediate reinstatement. In a ruling, Wednesday, Justice Gabriel Kolawole, said it would not be in the interest of justice for him to grant such application without hearing from those that were dragged before the high  court  by the embattled CBN governor. Consequently, Sanusi, was ordered to go and serve the relevant court processes on President Goodluck Jonathan, the Attorney General of the Federation and the  Inspector General  of Police, who were all listed as defendants in the matter, even as the substantive suit was adjourned to March 12 for hearing.

B’Haram Kills Nine, Razes Banks In Adamawa Attack

Suspected insurgents of the Boko Haram Sect have again attacked some communities in Michika and Madagali Local Government   Area of Adamawa State. A  security source  who confided in our correspondent said that an unspecified number of people were killed in Michika with several sensitive public facilities burnt. An unconfirmed report claimed that nine people were killed in the attack. Some of the residents told the  News Agency  of Nigeria on phone on Thursday that the attackers arrived the town around 9pm to unleash the mayhem for about five hours. “They burnt three banks, police station, shops and part of the Michika Local Government Council secretariat. “They came in nine Toyota Hilux vans firing guns and throwing explosives,” a resident who simply identify himself as Fide said. It was further learnt that several people were injured in the attacks while efforts were on to get more of the injured and those killed from the nearby bushes.

This story here makes my heart bleed! How does a man end up beating a woman to the point she’s beyond recognition? WTF! All in the name of LOVE? Nah…. It’s never that serious! If you are a victim of domestic  violence , please speak up and get out of that situation ASAP! The journey has been rough, I must say, though it has been one of those experiences that certify that God is with you and carrying you through the tough times. Along the way challenges can be found in every corner (being a woman in the industry was always a big one) and having to fight for the opportunity to be seen or heard so that you can prove your worth… and not always getting that chance in the end, are just some of the issues.

NNPC account is too sophisticated for us to investigate – ICPC

The Independent  Corrupt Practices  and other Related Offences Commission on Thursday told the Senate that the accounts of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation were too sophisticated for it to investigate. The anti-graft commission said it would require the services of   financial experts  to investigate the government oil corporation’s accounts.  “The account of NNPC is so sophisticated that it would require hiring financial experts to study it for needed investigation, the cost of which however cannot be afforded by us due to underfunding, ”  chief executive  of the ICPC, Prof. Olu Aina, said while defending the commission’s budget before the  Senate committee  in charge of the nation’s anti-graft agencies. Aina said the ICPC had refrained from investigating the NNPC accounts over the years because doing so was beyond its capacity.
