But the real victors of "The Hunger Games" franchise are the fans. For the rabid "Team Katniss" cheerleaders — who turned a book series about teens killing one another for sport into a massive franchise — their "Mockingjay" is director Francis Lawrence, who volunteered as tribute to finish off this four-part film series after the first director, Gary Ross, exited the arena.

That’s according to the Daily Mirror, which claimed the Dutch winger could complete a midseason move to Old Trafford to link up with his former Netherlands boss Louis van Gaal again. It’s suggested the Red Devils are “close” to finalising a deal for the former Real Madrid and Chelsea man.

Philippine police, protesters clash outside APEC summit

Manila - Riot police fired water cannons at hundreds of protesters in the Philippine capital Thursday in clashes close to a summit of Asia-Pacific leaders that included US President Barack Obama. With clenched fists in the air, the protesters chanted "Junk APEC", referring to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation group of 21 economies whose leaders were meeting in Manila. Police carrying wooden truncheons and shields fired water cannons at the protesters when they tried to break through barricades preventing anyone reaching the summit venue, about one kilometre (0.62 miles) away.

PDP hits back at Tinubu over Kogi poll prediction

The Kogi State Chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has slammed former governor of Lagos State, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on his alleged demeaning statement about Governor Idris Wada. The reaction comes after the All Progressives Congress leader reportedly predicted a loss for Wada in the upcoming governorship poll. “One emperor came to our state to say Governor Idris Wada is a goner. He is not God neither is our state Lagos where one man is more powerful than the state," Yomi Ogunmola the state Publicity Secretary, said.

UN condemns Adamawa suicide bomb attack

 United Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, has denounced the continued Boko Haram terror attacks in Nigeria. He particularly condemned the suicide bomb attack in Yola, the capital city of the Adamawa State, where more than 30 people were killed and over 70 seriously injured. Ki-moon extended his condolences to the families of the victims, as well as to the Government and people of Nigeria, and wishes a speedy recovery to those injured.

I won’t run away from Milan, insists Honda

Japan superstar Keisuke Honda has promised to fight for his place at AC Milan as speculation grows of an imminent move to England, local media reported Thursday. Apparently surplus to requirements at the San Siro, Honda has been buried deep on Milan's bench after falling out with Serbian coach Sinisa Mihajlovic, but the 29-year-old on Thursday denied he had handed in a transfer request.

'It was only a joke' - passenger who made bomb threat on Egyptian-bound plane and forced emergency landing

Oliseh commends Swaziland

Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh has saluted the Sihlangu Semnikati of Swaziland despite handing the South Africans a 2-0 defeat on Tuesday. The former African champions defeated their Swaziland counterparts 2-0 in a 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Tuesday, but had to struggle to secure the win, as the Swazis defended in numbers. Second half goals from Moses Simon and Efe Ambrose ensured the Super Eagles secured passage to the group stages of the qualifiers but Oliseh was still full of praise for the Swazis for their resilience.

Beijing vows justice as ISIS kills Chinese, Norwegian hostages

ISIS claims to have killed Chinese prisoner Fan Jinghui, right, and Norweigan prisoner Ole Johan Grimsgaard-Ofstad pictured here in an online ISIS magazine called Dabiq. Beijing has vowed to bring ISIS to justice after the group said it had executed two hostages, a Chinese and a Norwegian. ISIS said it had killed the two men, identified as Chinese national Fan Jinghui and Norwegian citizen Ole Johan Grimsgaard-Ofstad in its English-language online magazine Dabiq.

Much ado about Biafra

Many Nigerians today are angry about Biafra, some are ready to shed blood over Biafra, others are urging the leaders to kill fellow blacks over Biafra but one question we have not asked ourselves is - why the hatred and bitterness over Biafra? We will be happy with the creation of a new Local Government Area, we will be happy with the creation of a new state but why are we ready to kill fellow blacks over the creation or NOT of a new country? Is it the name Biafra? Is it the civil war experience?
