David Mark Stages Fraudulent Confirmation For Obanikoro As APC Senators Reject Him, Walk Out Of the Senate

There was drama in Nigeria’s upper legislative chamber today as the Senate President, David Mark, carefully orchestrated the confirmation of Musiliu Obanikoro as Nigeria’s minister of state for defence. The nominee had given up the same position to run in the party primaries for governor of Lagos State Musiliu ObanikoroMr. Obanikoro’s confirmation had previously been held up on three occasions as up to 40 Senators rejected his candidacy over his involvement in the rigging of last year’s gubernatorial poll in Ekiti. A rigging meeting on the eve of the election featured some of the principal characters in the plot, including Obanikoro, and was secretly taped by an army captain and published by SaharaReporters.

Two teenage boys have been sentenced to 30 years in prison for raping a, 87-year-old woman. A tearful Raymond Miranda will spend 30 years in jaill for raping an elderly woman. (Mirror) Two teenage boys, Raymond Miranda, 15, and Ruben Melanson, 16, have been sentenced to 30 years in prison each for raping an 87-year-old woman and forcing her to drink bleach. The boys pleaded guilty to the sexual assault on the elderly lady which happened in April, 2014, and will be moved to state prison from the California’s juvenile facility to a proper prison once they turn 18. The boys were said to have attacked the woman at her home by entering through a window, before tying her up and sexually assaulting her.

As PSG offer players £180,000 each to beat Blues José Mourinho has revealed Chelsea’s players will not receive a team bonus if they progress beyond Paris Saint-Germain into the quarter-finals of the Champions League and will be rewarded only if they lift the trophy in Berlin in June. The Premier League leaders play PSG at Stamford Bridge with the knockout tie poised at 1-1 and the visitors on €250,000 (£180,000) per man if they progress into the last eight. South African television reporter mugged on camera

Two men, one armed with a gun, were caught on camera late on Tuesday mugging a South African journalist as he prepared for a live television report on Zambian President Edgar Lungu’s hospital treatment. The video, which was posted on the Internet, shows the men pacing around reporter Vuyo Mvoko while he speaks to the camera, before a scuffle ensues, and then Mvoko is heard shouting: “Hey, we’re being mugged.”

Zaur Dadayev was arrested on Saturday, about a week after Boris Nemtsov was shot dead Zaur Dadayev, one of two suspects charged with the murder of Russian opposition politician Boris Nemtsov, confessed under duress, a member of Russia's Human Rights Council says. Andrei Babushkin, who visited Mr Dadayev on Tuesday, says he saw "numerous wounds" on his body, suggesting he had been tortured. The suspect said he only confessed so a friend arrested with him would be freed, Mr Babushkin said.

Boko Haram’s pledge of allegiance to the Islamic State group was a sign of weakness and a result of pressure on the jihadist militants by Nigeria and its allies, the government in Abuja said on Tuesday. National security spokesman Mike Omeri called the pledge “an act of desperation and comes at a time when Boko Haram is suffering heavy losses”. The Islamists’ leader Abubakar Shekau made the announcement in an audio message on Saturday night after months of indications that Boko Haram was seeking a formal tie-up.

RIVERS REC, MRS GESILA KHAN, SENSITISING TRADERS ON THE FORTHCOMING GENERAL ELECTIONS The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has recovered about 1,300 permanent voter cards allegedly stolen by unknown persons in Rivers State, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mrs. Gesilla Khan, said on Tuesday. Khan had few weeks ago announced that about 14,000 PVCs were stolen from the state and declared that they would be useless to those who stole them.

The Sierra Leone Ministry of Sport has lifted the suspensions of 15 players and officials who were alleged to have been involved in match-fixing. The news was communicated by letter addressed to the secretary general of the Sierra Leone Football Association. It said the decision was supported by the country's president and was taken "to solve the impasse in football".

A Los Angeles court has found in favour of Marvin Gaye’s estate Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams have long denied stealing their hit track Blurred Lines from Marvin Gaye’s song Got To Give It Up, but now a court has found in favour of Gaye’s estate. Thicke, who became a household name for the track and the song’s producer, Oscar-nominee Pharrell Williams, have been ordered to pay out nearly £5million to the Gaye family after a jury found that the hitmakers had infringed on the late star’s copyright for the 1977 song. Thicke and Williams now have to pay £2.67 million in copyright damages plus profits attributable to infringement, which for Thicke was determined to be £1.2million and for Williams was determined to be £1.1 million.
