Adamawa Governor Says No Regrets Over Calls For Postponement Of February Polls, Slams Abuja Politicians

The Governor of Adamawa State, Mr. Bala Ngillari, has restated his call for the postponement of the February 2015 general elections. Mr. Ngillari said he maintains his stance despite the flaks that trailed his earlier similar statement on the issue. “I owe no one apology for demanding extension of elections”, the governor said, adding that “some Abuja based politicians are unpatriotic who do not have the interest of the people at heart”. The governor, who was speaking at a town hall meeting of the Adamawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, organised by the Minister of Women Affairs, Zainab Maina, in Yola, the state capital, insisted that next month’s elections, particularly in the state, was not the most important to the citizens.

Judicial Workers Suspend Strike

Judicial workers under the aegis of Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) Sunday night in Abuja called off their three-week strike. JUSUN on January 5, 2015 began an indefinite strike over the failure of state governments to grant financial autonomy to federal and state judiciary, in obedience to an order to so by a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja. Sources close to a marathon meeting of representatives of the striking workers, at the instance of Chief Registrar, Supreme Court, Ahmed Gambo Abuja, said JUSUN National president, Comrade Adamu Marwa agreed that federal court workers would resume work immediately.

Military Lifts Maiduguri Curfew

SOLDIERS ON GUARD ON POST OFFICE ROAD IN MAIDUGURI The 7 Division of the Nigerian Army, Maiduguri, said on Sunday that the 24-hour curfew imposed on the Borno State capital would be lifted on Monday morning. The spokesman of the division, Col. Sani Usman, stated this in a statement in Maiduguri. The statement said that residents of Maiduguri were free to go about their normal businesses as from 6 a.m. on Monday.

Niger PDP Dismisses Report Of Defections As APC Propaganda

The Peoples Democratic Party in Niger State, on Sunday described the reported defection of members of the ruling party to the All Progressives Congress as a mere propaganda by the opposition to mislead the electorate. The deputy chairman of the party, Tanko Beji, who stated this in Minna, the state capital, said that he had no plan to leave the PDP and that no serving commissioner in the state was also planning on leaving party. He said those alleged to have defected to the APC received the information with shock when a national daily published their alleged defection.

According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, the President gave the assurance during a closed-door meeting with the United States Secretary of State, Mr. John Kerry, at the State House, Marina, Lagos. The statement was signed by the President. He said he had what he called “a candid and constructive discussion” about a broad range of issues with his guest.
