Troops on alert after failed Borno suicide attack

A member of a vigilante group in Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State at the weekend thwarted an attempt by a suicide bomber to attack the Rumirgo market, the Army reported. The Acting Director of Army Public Relations Col. Sani Kukasheka Usman confirmed the development. He said the suspected suicide bomber was heading to Rumirgo market when the youth accosted him. In the process of interrogation the suspected terrorist blew himself up and died on the spot.

The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA), an NGO has urged the Federal Government not to stop pregnant women and nursing mothers from participating in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). The HURIWA National Coordinator, Mr Emmanuel Onwubiko, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Abuja that stopping them from taking part in the programme would be discriminatory.

New York police found Freeman’s granddaughter by marriage, 33-year-old E’dena Hines, lying in the street outside her apartment in Washington Heights with some 16 stab wounds to her body, police said. She was taken to Harlem Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
