Bandits kill 15, one policeman in Zamfara

Gusau - The police in Gusau on Monday confirmed the killing of 16 persons, including a policeman, by armed bandits in Maru local government area of Zamfara. The state police command's Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Lawal Abdullahi, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that about 150 armed hoodlums riding on motorcycles perpetrated the act. He said the hoodlums had invaded the three villages of Tungar Rakumi, Mallamawa and Kangarawa on Saturday night.

Suspects found with severed human head in Oyo

Ibadan – Five people as well as two herbalists were arrested by Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) when they found a human head in their possession, The police also found a coffin, 16 handset, clothes, charms, calabash, three cars amongst other items in their possession. The suspects claimed that even though the head had a machete cut in it, it was a fake head, confessing that they were frauds who did not actually kill people. The police sent the head to the coroners in order to distinguish whether or not it was real.

4 arrested for murder of couple in Enugu

Enugu - The police in Enugu State have arrested four suspects for the alleged murder of Ogbonna Idoko and his wife, Victoria, in Okpo. Police confirmed in a statement that the suspects were from the same community than the deceased. The statement said the incident occurred in the late hours of February 7 when the deceased were slaughtered with a sharp object in their house. Operatives of the state’s criminal investigation department have commenced full scale investigations into the matter. The police also arrested six persons for alleged involvement in the murder of one Chukwuemeka Ugwa in Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu State. Ugwa was killed on February 8 after he allegedly stole the sum of N74 000 in his community. A statement from the police said the body of the deceased had been deposited at Oji River General Hospital mortuary for necessary actions.

Oil, gas production resumes in Niger Delta

  Lagos - Eland Oil and Gas has resumed production in the Niger Delta seven years after operations were halted because of the problems posed by the militant Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND). The development is widely seen as positive business approach aimed at increasing oil pumping capacity as well as creating jobs for thousands of Nigerians.
