Power Firms Begin Nationwide Disconnections

  The 11 electricity distribution companies (Discos) have announced plans to begin a nationwide disconnection of historical debtors made up mainly of government ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) whose collective debts now stand in excess of N78 billion by the end of April, this year. This was disclosed at the weekend in Abuja by the executive director, Research and Advocacy, Association of Nigerian Electricity Distributors (ANED), Sunday Oduntan.

Four die in Lagos-Kano train accident

Four people travelling on a Lagos-Kano train died on Saturday when the train derailed at Jebba, Kwara State, with three other passengers injured. The dead victims were said to have been trapped inside a guard van reserved for security personnel aboard the train. The accident, which occurred around 7am, reportedly affected the train from the rear and destroyed its two baggage vans, one guard van and a power car.

Dasuki paid me monthly to run my office as presidential spokesman – Okupe

A former Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Dr. Doyin Okupe, has revealed how embattled National Security Adviser, NSA, Col Sambo Dasuki (rtd) funded his office monthly. Okupe made the disclosure on his Twitter handle yesterday, while dismissing claims that he benefited from the slush funds allegedly disbursed to top politicians by Dasuki. Dasuki is currently standing trial for allegedly using funds meant for the procurement of arms for the military fighting insurgency in the North East.
