Microsoft to sell $399 Xbox One without Kinect

Image
The Xbox One console has cost $499 since it went on sale last November.  Microsoft has slashed the price of its Xbox One console and is offering the device without the accompanying Kinect motion-control system. Beginning on June 9, Microsoft will offer the Xbox One for $399 in all markets where it's sold -- a $100 price cut from the bundled version with Kinect. Customers can place preorders now. In a post Tuesday morning , Microsoft also announced the Xbox One and older Xbox 360 console will no longer require a Live Gold subscription, which cost $60 a year, to access streaming apps like Netflix, Hulu Plus, YouTube and HBO Go. "Your feedback matters to us and it shapes the products and services we build," said Xbox chief Phil Spencer in announcing the move, which suggests Microsoft heeded gamers' complaints that the Xbox One was too expensive. But even if you’ve really been dying to have Google Glass, you should pass. Why? Because what Google is offering amounts to a really expensive beta program for an incomplete product. You’re getting hardware that is likely to be quite inferior to the final shipping version and you’re going to pay a lot more for it than whatever the final version costs.

Google self-driving cars rolling along

Image
Mountain View - A white Lexus cruised along a road near the Google campus, braking for pedestrians and scooting over in its lane to give bicyclists ample space. The car eased into a turn lane, waited for a green light and a break in traffic, then continued on its way in the Silicon Valley city of Mountain View. It even avoided stopping on train tracks. But there was nobody holding the wheel. What looked like the work of a conscientious driver was a Google car making all the moves - with an AFP reporter in the back seat. Google used machine learning to teach cars how people drive and, from there, to anticipate what motorists in surrounding traffic are likely to do.

Reports on Vietnamese social media sites and dissident blogs suggested that the violence had been widespread with some reports suggesting that up to a dozen factories were set ablaze. Vietnamese police and officials contacted by AFP repeatedly refused to comment. China and Vietnam are locked in  long-standing territorial disputes  in the South China Sea over the Paracel and Spratly islands,

President Goodluck Jonathan is set to extend   the state of emergency in Adamawa, Borno, and Yobe by six months. The request was sent to the Senate on Monday The emergency rule was first introduced in the three states in May last year, before it was extended by another six months in November. A further extension will ensure it continues to November, three months to the general elections in Nigeria.
