Barely a week after its call for the cancellation of the April 11 governorship election in Delta State, the All Progressives Congress (APC) appears to have fallen apart over who clinches federal appointments from the incoming administration of President-elect Gen. Muhammadu Buhari. Indications to this emerged over the weekend, when party leaders from Warri North, Warri South and Warri South West local government areas of Delta State, accused the governorship candidate of the party, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, of angling for a federal appointment through Machiavellian means. Representatives of APC in the three local government areas led by David Olayinka Atie, Macson Ebiereneyin and Mike Odeli among others, said that it was Emerhor and chairman of the party in the state, Prophet Jones Erue,

The sack was announced by the president’s spokesperson, Reuben Abati, in a statement on Tuesday. No reason was given for the sack. A Deputy Inspector General of police, Solomon Arase, was appointed to act in his stead. Mr. Abba’s removal and the assumption of office of his replacement is with immediate effect.

Commissioner for Tourism and Inter-governmental Affairs, Disun Holloway, said the new date was approved by the state governor, Babatunde Fashola. The Lagos Boat Regatta, which traditionally precedes the carnival, held last Sunday with pump and pageantry at the Oyinkan Abayomi Drive, Ikoyi, venue of the festival. Both the Boat Regatta and the Carnival are part of the Lagos Black Heritage Festival.
