Jubilant Ife residents hail new Ooni

The people of Ife were in joyous mood on Monday after Prince Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi from Giesi Ruling House‎ was named the Ooni-designate by kingmakers and the Osun State government. A group of jubilant‎ crowd, carrying a large portrait of Prince Adeyeye marched to the residence his father, Prince Ropo Ogunwusi, at NTA Road, Mukoro area of Ife, to share their joy with the family.

Five Britons killed as whale-watching vessel sinks off Tofino

Britain’s Foreign Office has confirmed the five victims of Sunday’s whale-watching accident were British citizens. The whale-watching boat carrying 27 sightseers sank late Sunday, apparently after hitting rocks near Tofino, killing five people and sending 18 others to hospital. “It is with deep sadness that I can confirm five British nationals have lost their lives when the whale-watching boat they were on sank off Western Canada on Sunday,” Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond said in a statement.

Tribunal endorses Lalong’s election

The Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Jos on Monday upheld the election of Simon Lalong as governor of Plateau state. Simon Lalong: election upheld The tribunal dismissed the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) gubernatorial candidate, Gyang Pwajok, for lack of merit. Pwajok had challenged the victory of Gov. Lalong of the All Progressives Congress, (APC). Chairman of the three-man tribunal, Justice Johnson Candid0, held that the all the petitions presented by the petitioners where based on documentary hearsay.

Dogara congratulates new Ooni of Ife

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rep. Yakubu Dogara, has congratulated, Adeyeye Ogunwusi, on his appointment as the new Ooni of Ife. ‎ This is contained in a statement issued by Mr Turaki Hassan, his Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, in Abuja on Monday. Gov. Raufu Aregbesola, had approved the appointment of Ogunwusi of Guesi Rulling House, after his selection by the Ife Kingmakers.
