The nationalists won 56 of 59 parliamentary seats in Scotland in Thursday’s general election, final results showed, up from just six at the last vote in 2010.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said all funds for the payment of allowances of all National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members and ad-hoc workers engaged for the 2015 general elections have been released to those affected. The Chief Press Secretary to INEC Chairman, Mr Kayode Idowu, stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Abuja.

The national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Adamu Mu'azu yesterday mocked the governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, insisting that his deathwish advert on president-elect, Muhammadu Buhari led to the loss of President Goodluck Jonathan at the elections. Muazu took to his verified Twitter handle, to mock Fayose with the post, "Fayose: I have evidence that Muazu worked for APC. We hope it's not the kind of evidence he once said he had that Buhari was dying?"

 The Supreme Court, yesterday, threw a spanner into proposed plans by the National Assembly to override the President's veto on amendments to the constitution achieved by the assembly and endorsed by the state houses of assembly. In a ruling, a seven-man panel of justices of the apex court, led by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Mahmud Mohammed, ordered the lawmakers to maintain status quo on the matter until June 18.

Burundi Protests Continue as Regional Leaders Prepare for Summit

Opponents of Burundian President Pierre Nkurunziza’s plans to seek a third term in office protested for a 10th day on Friday as regional leaders prepared to hold a summit next week to discuss the country’s political crisis. Four people were killed in the capital, Bujumbura, on Thursday, bringing the death toll to 14 since the demonstrations erupted on April 26. An unspecified number of people are missing, civil-society leader Pacifique Nininahazwe said by phone.

The vote was 98-1 for the bipartisan bill that would give Congress a say on what could be a historic accord that the United States and five other nations are trying to finalize with Iran, which would get relief from crippling economy penalties.

Jonathan urges Buhari’s administration to boost railway system

President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday urged the incoming Buhari administration to continue to boost the railway system as the cheapest and most effective mode of mass transit in the country. The president said this when he inspected the ongoing construction of the National Railway Terminal at Idu and the Abuja light rail transit system. Jonathan said he was happy with the progress of work done on the projects and called on the state governors to also build light rails in their state capitals.

Manny Pacquiao has undergone successful surgery on his right shoulder, just days after his loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. Los Angeles orthopaedic surgeon Dr Neal ElAttrache, who performed the operation to repair a torn rotator cuff, said he could “not be more pleased with the results” and expects the boxer to make a full recovery.

An obsessed Chris Brown fan broke into his home while he was in Las Vegas and wrote “I love you” on his walls. Chris Brown came back to his Agoura Hills, California home Wednesday evening to find a naked female intruder waiting inside. He called the police. The police found the woman, Amira Ayeb, inside his residence, according to CNN. A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department news release said that a man–who was later confirmed as Brown–called about the 21-year-old intruder around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. Brown claimed that he did not know who she was and that she did not have permission to be there.

The recent analysis of satellite data has revealed that the 7.8 magnitude ​has shrunk the height of Mount Everest by about 2.5 cm. The new images provided by Europe's Sentinel-1A radar satellite depict that a broad swath of ground near Kathmandu lifted vertically, by about 1 metre, which could explain why damage in the city was so severe and also that Mount Everest, got a wee bit shorter.

Legendary Brazilian Pele has had prostrate surgery and is in a stable condition, officials at the Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo confirmed on Thursday. This is after the three time World Cup winner is admitted to hospital for the second time in six months and received transurethral resection of the prostate, according to the hospital.
