APC leaders upset as Pres. Buhari appoints more Northerners

There was outrage in the ruling All Progressives Congress party on Thursday over the announcement of new appointments by President Muhammadu Buhari. Leaders of the APC complained that the appointments were mostly in favour of the North and Northerners. "The President does not consult before making most of these appointments and I can tell you that Nigerians are going to term the party and the President as a northern party and the President of Northern Nigeria," a leader of the party said on Tuesday.

After a long silence, a former governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu, has opened up on the ongoing corruption allegations hanging around the neck of his successor, Babatunde Fashola. In a statement issued on Wednesday, Tinubu distanced himself from Fashola’s ordeals, saying that he was not working against him from being appointed by President Buhari.

Ikechukwu The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has apprehended an Arik Air crew member, Chibuzor Oliver Ikechukwu over his alleged role in the 20 kilogramme of cocaine seizure by the United Kingdom Border Force at Heathrow Airport. Ikechukwu, 35, who works as a catering loader was found to have subverted airport security by concealing cocaine in catering supplies.

PDP nullifies Metuh’s suspension

The National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party has announced the nullification of the purported suspension of the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh. This was contained in a statement by the PDP National Legal Adviser, Victor Kwon, on Thursday in Abuja. It noted that contrary to the suspension of the National Publicity Secretary, the party‘s NWC, at its Wednesday meeting, reiterated its implicit confidence in his ability and actions that had stabilised the party so far.

Nigeria's Warri refinery temporarily shut: NNPC

Nigeria's Warri refinery has been shut down temporarily and operations will resume by Tuesday, a spokesman for the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) said on Thursday. Oil sales account for about 70 percent of government revenue in Africa's top crude producer. It imports most of the fuel used by its 170 million inhabitants, however, because of its ageing, inefficientrefineries in Warri, Kaduna and Port Harcourt.
