Get Apple's QuickTime Off Your PC Now, U.S. Government Advises

Apple suddenly dropped support for the software, which has dangerous bugs. Do you still have QuickTime for Windows on your PC? Get rid of it, pronto. That’s the advice coming from the U.S. Computer Emergency Readiness Team (US-CERT), following an “urgent call to action” by cybersecurity firm Trend Micro TMICF -0.29% . The version of QuickTime on Apple AAPL 0.14% computers is not affected. What’s the rush? Trend Micro found two critical flaws in the PC version of Apple’s media-playing software that could let hackers take over victims’ computers.

Microsoft sued the Justice Department on Thursday to block authorities from taking customers’ e-mails and other data stored by Microsoft without ever having to let them know, an escalation of a two-year tussle with the government over privacy and cloud computing. On Friday, Apple is set to continue its fight to keep the government out of another iPhone — this one seized from a drug dealer in a Brooklyn case, just weeks after the FBI dropped its effort to force Apple to help it break into one used by a terrorist who with his wife killed 14 people last year in San Bernardino, California.

Planned nationwide strike may be extended to one week for impact – TUC

While the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, says it is still consulting with the Trade Union Congress, TUC, over its planned one-day strike in protest of the hike in electricity tariff and government’s poor handling of the economy, the latter has suggested that the anticipated strike might be extended to one week to create an impact.Speaking to ThisDay newspaper on the matter, the TUC President, Bobboi Kaigama, disclosed that the plan to embark on the warning strike was still on ‘course’ stating that, consultations were still on-going. In Kaigama’s words, “Of course, the plan to go on strike is still on; the most important thing is consultation. You know, to organise a strike is not a tea party, you have to consult widely before you go on with the plan. “At the moment, we are still monitoring the situation; it is also likely that, it (strike) may be extended to one week in order to make an impact.”

By afternoon, more than 130 aftershocks had hit the area around the city of Kumamoto in the wake of the initial 6.4 magnitude quake the night before. Officials said the frequency was tapering off but the risk of further strong aftershocks will remain for about a week.
