PDP warns against use of judiciary to threaten democracy

 Senator Ahmed Markafi led Peoples Democratic Party has warned against the judiciary being used to threaten democracy in the country. Speaking Sunday in Port Harcourt against the backdrop of developmemts in Abia , Edo and within the party, member of the Caretaker Committee of the party, Prince Dayo Adeyeye said there should be a check on the way and manner politicians were shopping for injunctions and court orders, stressing that it could truncate the nation democracy. Dismissing as bizare and unsutainable a court order that the Independent National Electoral commission, INEC, should recognise the candidate from Ali Modu Sheriff’s Congress for the governorship election in Edo state Adeyeye said efforts so far by Sheriff and his team to go round securing court orders was absurd.

Dozens dead in Pakistan and India after floods and landslides

At least 55 people have been killed in northern Pakistan and India in flash floods and landslides triggered by heavy monsoon rains. Floods in the Chitral district of Pakistan damaged houses and a mosque killing at least 30, officials said. Another 25 are now known to have died in floods and landslides in India's Uttarakhand and Arunachal Pradesh states in recent days.
