Moses signs new contract with Chelsea, moves to West Ham

Victor Moses Tuesday signed a new four-year contract with Chelsea and will spend the remainder of this season on loan at West Ham United. Mikel and Moses Moses, who helped the Blues lift the Europa League in 2013, was a substitute in this season’s Community Shield at Wembley but now moves across London for the rest of the campaign.

Third of migrants arriving in Macedonia are women and children: UNICEF

A third of all migrants and refugees who have passed through Macedonia are women and children and their numbers have trippled in the last three months, the UN children’s agency (UNICEF) said Tuesday. Some 12 percent of those women are pregnant, UNICEF added, as the influx of migrants crossing into Macedonia through Greece grows daily, sparking sporadic clashes with riot police trying to limit the flood of new arrivals on the so-called Balkan route to northern Europe.

FIFA called in to resolve De Gea-Navas swap deal

Manchester United and Real Madrid will approach FIFA in order to try and resolve a swap deal involving goalkeepers David De Gea and Keylor Navas. Both clubs had agreed a transfer, that would see De Gea move back to Spain, while Navas joins United, but the final paperwork was submitted in the last minutes of the transfer window. According to reports, the deal fell through as the documents were password protected.

CBN urged to further devalue the naira

The sustained low crude oil prices will continue to put pressure on Nigeria’s revenue as well as the country’s currency, a financial market expert has said. To this end, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has been advised to allow for some level of adjustment of the naira. The Chief Executive Officer, Financial Derivatives Company Limited, Mr. Bismarck Rewane, gave the advice at a training for financial journalists organised by Sterling Bank Plc, in Lagos at the weekend.

Nigeria Will Be Polio-free By 2017 – PMB

President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday restated his resolve to ensure that Nigeria is finally certified polio-free by 2017, saying all Nigerians must join hands with the federal government to achieve this. Buhari said this at separate meetings with governors of polio-vulnerable states and members of the High-Level Advocacy Group. The president noted that for the country to become polio-free permanently, it must build on its achievement of being polio-free for 12 months, which was marked in July.

At least three people were killed Monday in a deadly clash between rival cult groups in Elega and Ago-Odo areas of Abeoluta, Ogun State capital, police and residents said. Fighting broke out between the Eiye and Aiye confraternities, throwing the communities into confusion as residents fled for their lives.
