What's Wrong With Messi & Ronaldo?

FC Barcelona’s Lionel Messi and Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo are both goalless in two weeks of La Liga action. Should fans be concerned?

This is the first time, since the Messi and Ronaldo rivalry began in 2009, both players have taken part in two consecutive La Liga games and failed to provide a goal or an assist.

The Argentine had his chance from the penalty spot in Barcelona’s first league match against Athletic Bilbao, but the 28-year-old’s shot was saved.

In Saturday’s match against Malaga, Messi did not have any real impact, with the Catalan club only winning the fixture 1-0.

Ronaldo looked lively against Real Betis on the weekend, and although he had many attempts at goal, he did not hit the back of the net again, having failed to do so in Los Blancos' first La Liga game of the campaign against Sporting Gijon.

Comparing Ronaldo and Messi’s start to last season’s first two league games, the Portuguese had already scored one, while the Argentine had found the net twice and assisted once.

Perhaps both forwards are feeling the pressure with all the hype over the off-season, and after this week’s international break, Ronaldo and Messi will want to make amends for their quiet start.
