Police IG, Solomon Arase, moves to remove Lamorde as EFCC chair

Ibrahim Lamorde, EFCC Chairman The Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, has written to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission indicating his plan to recall all police officers who have so far served in the commission for five years, authoritative sources at the police headquarters in Abuja reavealed. In a letter, with reference number CB/33/80/IGP.SEC/Abj/Vol.52/60, and dated July 14, 2015, Mr. Arase directed the EFCC to compile a list of all officers in the category, and forward to his office without delay.

NUC releases list of illegal tertiary institutions (See full list)

The National Universities Commission has released a list of illegal degree awarding institutions operating in Nigeria. The schools were published in the NUC’s weekly bulletin dated August 24. According to the bulletin, the NUC Executive secretary, Julius Okojie, warned that those who patronise the schools, do so at their own risk.

Blessing Okagbare |The hopes of Nigeria winning a medal in the individual events suffered a huge blow on Wednesday when Blessing Okagbare did not show up for the women’s 200m of the ongoing IAAF World Athletics Championships in Beijing, China. The situation has left many confused. Gabriel Okon, who is the head coach of Team Nigeria in Beijing, said Okagbare copped a hamstring in her warm-up and had to withdraw from the race but some other sources in China suggest she was not prepared for the race.

Nigerian state oil company ends delivery and offshore processing deals

Nigeria's state oil company has cancelled its contract for the delivery of crude to the country's refineries in Warri, Port Harcourt and Kaduna, it said on Wednesday. Oil sales account for about 70 percent of government revenue in Nigeria, Africa's top crude producer, but the country imports most of the fuel used by its 170 million inhabitants because of its inefficient, ageing refineries.

W/Bank offers FG N27.58bn for community projects

World Bank The World Bank on Wednesday said it would soon start the disbursement of $140m (N27.58bn) under its assisted Community and Social Development Project to 26 states and the Federal Capital Territory. The bank, in a statement issued in Abuja and made available to our correspondent, said about $200m (N39.4bn) had been disbursed under the first phase of the project, thus bringing the total amount provided under the programme to $340m (N66.98bn)
