Kim K.: talks Vogue cover, Naomi Campbell laughs

Image
As soon as Kim Kardashian and her fiance,  Kanye West , were unveiled as Vogue magazine's latest cover stars, loyal fashion fans demanded to know how it happened. Vogue's editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour, has already explained that she believes the reality star and rapper warrant the cover because of the influence they wield. But what does Kardashian have to say about it? (Other than it's a dream come true?) "I didn't know it was going to be the cover," Kardashian told Seth Meyers on "Late Night" March 26. "It was such a secret, I didn't tell my sisters, I didn't tell anyone. My mom knew, but it was this  top secret  mission." The international  photo shoot  wasn't without its glitches. It seems the highly publicized shot of the Kardashian- West family , in which baby North is cuddling up with her dad sans diaper, was caught in the middle of a bathroom break for the 9-month-old. "North peed on him right at

Report: N. Korea fires on South during North's military drills; South responds

Image
A day after raising the possibility of further nuclear tests, North Korea has engaged in provocative live-fire exercises near the South Korean  maritime border, leading to an exchange of fire between the two neighbors. Semi-official South Korean news agency  Yonhap reported  Monday that the North had begun the drill just after noon (local time). The Joint  Chiefs of Staff  (JCS) confirmed that some North Korean ordnance landed in South Korean waters, and that the South responded with fire. The JCS confirmed that the  North Korean  offshore military exercise began around 12:15 pm (local time) Monday, and said that "a part of North Korea's shelling reached South Korean side of the NLL (Northern Limit Line) and we (South Korea) responded with K-9 self-propelled guns into the North Korean waters above NLL."

Mark Zuckerberg Set To Beam internet To People From The Skies Using Drones, Satellites

Image
This annoucement was gotten from  Mark Zuckerberg’s Facebook Page In our effort to connect the whole world with Internet.org, we’ve been working on ways to beam internet to people from the sky. Today, we’re sharing some details of the work Facebook’s Connectivity Lab is doing to build drones, satellites and lasers to deliver the internet to everyone. Our goal with Internet.org is to make affordable access to basic internet services available to every person in the world. We’ve made good progress so far. Over the past year, our work in the Philippines and Paraguay alone has doubled the number of people using mobile data with the operators we’ve partnered with, helping 3 million new people access the internet.

Microsoft Office Mobile for Android is now free

It was almost a footnote in Microsoft's big reveal of  Office for iPad  today, but the iPhone and Android version of Office Mobile is now  free . Previously, these phone-focused apps required an Office 365 subscription. But with a new mobile platform to exploit, Microsoft has decided to allow us to view, edit, and create Office documents on our Android phones without shelling out for a subscription.

I have forgiven Atiku-Obasanjo

Image
Former  president, Olusegun Obasanjo yesterday in Abeokuta said that he had forgiven his former vice-president, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku  as well as any other persons perceived to have offended him of any sin. The relationship between Atiku and Obasanjo  since 2006 has been sore since Atiku’s alleged role in scuttling the third-term agenda of his boss. He  spoke while reacting to the request of the Northern  Youth Leaders  Forum (NYLF) who paid him a courtesy visit after their two-day meeting held in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital. As a leader and father,  Obasanjo said he bore no grudge against anybody and if there was any, he had forgiven them. But addressing the NYLF yesterday, Obasanjo said “on the request that you made yesterday, I do not have any grudge against anybody. And if there is any, I have forgiven all as a father.” Obasanjo appreciated the group for coming to Abeokuta to make case for a way forward for the country saying that  since 2003,  efforts of the foru

Boko Haram returns to Borno highways

Image
Boko Haram insurgents believed to have fled their hideouts following military raids on their camps in Borno State, have renewed attacks on motorists and commuters along major highways, travellers said. One of the witnesses said the insurgents intercepted a truck carrying food items along Maiduguri-Damaturu highway, as the driver of the vehicle fled when he sighted them. “Our vehicle almost ran into Boko Haram near Benisheik, but for the alert from a  car  in front. The driver of the  private car  had suddenly put his car in reverse and then made a quick U-turn back to Damaturu axis of the road, signaling to our driver to turn back too,” he said. That was how we knew problem was ahead. He later told us at Ngamdu where many motorists stopped that Boko Haram struck on the road, that they put fire on a truck,” a source said. Another source, who said he was returning to Maiduguri on Friday morning from Bauchi, disclosed that he was gripped with fear when he learnt the insurgents were on th

SSS jailbreak: Tight security in Force Headquarters, military barracks

Image
The attempted  jail break  by a Boko Haram suspect in custody at the headquarters of the State  Security Service  (SSS) in Abuja, has prompted the police and the military formations in Abuja to beef up security at all their offices and barracks. This is coming just as normalcy has returned to the three arm zone, where a detachment  of soldiers deployed to take charge of the situation had started leaving the place at about 3.36pm. There were however, some soldiers on ground to monitor the situation. A visit round Abuja  showed that the military and the police were not taking the matter lightly. At the  Police Force  Headquarters, policemen mounted a roadblock, using two  armoured vehicles  to prevent motorists and other road users from driving through. They however, created a diversion for motorists on one side of the lane, resulting in one-way driving. At the federal secretariat, Daily Sun observed a handful of policemen positioned near the building, ostensibly to keep security.

UNN Troubles: Okolo, Please Find another Defence; Your Nsukka-Agenda Tantrum is Diversionary

There is an anecdote in my own part of the Igbo society told about a woman who farted upon attempting to lift a heavy object in public. Thereupon, to clear off the shame, she continued, using her mouth, to make a sound that resembled the fart. An elder in the gathering then said to her, “You cannot deceive us; we know the difference between the sound made with the mouth and that made by the anus.” Just follow me. The university is a citadel of the highest order of learning. To attain professorship in a foremost university, such as the University of Nigeria, is to be (or so it seems) an academic of the highest order. An academic of the highest order should be discerning enough not to take recourse in the fallacy of spurious allegation. That two things exist concurrently does not necessarily mean that one has caused the other. But such a fallacy, it seems, has been Prof Bartho Okolo’s most formidable line of  defence  in the troubles  that have attended his VCship of the University of

30 Killed in Boko Haram, SSS Gun Duel

Image
No fewer than 30 persons were  killed   early Sunday morning  when Boko Haram insurgents attempted to seize the national headquarters of the Department of State Security otherwise known as State Security Service (SSS). The attempt to seize  control  of the SSS headquarters led to a heavy gun battle that began at bout 8am and didn’t end until about 11.30am. The SSS headquarters is less than 100 metres from the Aso Rock Villa, the official residence of President Goodluck Jonathan and Vice President Namadi Sambo. Both men were reportedly not in the Villa at the time of the attack. A  large number  of the casualties are believed to be the insurgents. At least 100 members of the Boko Haram sect are detained in the SSS facility. There were conflicting accounts on what triggered the gun battle. One SSS source said an insurgent disarmed an SSS operative and a doctor detailed to treat him (insurgent). “The insurgent then turned the weapon on the operatives. Other operatives res
