About five soldiers and 35 other civilians were feared killed in a busy junction at Marrabar Mubi, about 18 kilometres from Mubi town when a bomb planted by the roadside went off, local sources say. Mubi was recently recaptured by Nigerian troops and local hunters. Reports from the area indicate that the incident happened at about 7pm when a detachment of Nigerian troops and local hunters were conducting routine supervision of the areas. Five local hunters in the convoy reportedly sustained injuries and were taken to Adamawa Specialist Hospital where they were treated and discharged. Military sources who confirmed the incident and said only five soldiers were killed while dozens of others sustained various degrees of injuries.

THE Senate Thursday said that the allegation by the former President Olusegun Obasanjo that the National Assembly was using constituency projects to siphon the public funds was a total lie meant to denigrate the sanctity of the parliament. The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved N9 billion for the distribution of 750,000 clean cooking stove and 18,000 wonder bags for refuse disposal. The screening appeal panel set up by the Peoples Democratic Party late Wednesday cleared 12 governorship aspirants in Rivers State initially disqualified by a screening panel. A screening committee headed by a former Ambassador to Spain, Obed Wadzani, had early in the week attempted to stop 13 aspirants on the purported ground that they were not registered members of PDP.
