NCC To Sanction Network Service Providers Over Unsolicited Messages

Nigerians have for long complained about getting unsolicited text messages from network service providers. The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), in a move to stop this has now said it would not hesitate to penalize network providers that failed to keep its regulation on unsolicited messages to subscribers. In an interview with newsmen on Wednesday, Tony Ojobo, the Director, Public Affairs, NCC, said that the commission would not support network providers to send unsolicited messages to subscribers, as it infringed on their privacy.

Presidential Debate: Group Denies Leaking Questions To Jonathan

The Nigeria Election Debate Group (NEDG), yesterday, debunked rumours that it had leaked election debate questions to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, President Goodluck Jonathan. NEDG Chairman, Shola Omole made the declaration during a press conference on the preparation of the Presidential Debates organised by the NEDG, in Abuja. According Omole, who is also the Director General of the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), 13 political parties had indicated interest to take part in the debate.

68.8 Million PVCs Ready For Collection – INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), yesterday, showed commitment to a smooth conduct of the February general elections, as it said all Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) had been printed and are ready for collection. Reacting to an allegation by the Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere, that more than 15 million voters had not collected their cards and 14 million voters cards were yet to arrive the country, INEC, in a phone chat with Vanguard, faulted the claim and confirmed that all PVCs have been printed and are available for collection.

Former Defence Minister, Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma, has called for the arrest of Asari Dokubo, High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, General Boyloaf and other Niger Delta ex-militants over recent war threats. Speaking to newsmen at the permanent site of the multi-billion naira North-West University, Kano, Danjuma described the statements from the ex-militants as reckless and irresponsible. “Those were reckless statements coming from irresponsible individuals; they should be condemned and be arrested immediately”.

22,000 Graduates Have Benefited In FG’s Internship Scheme – Okonjo-Iweala

The Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Wednesday, said that 22,000 Nigerian graduates benefited from the Federal Government’s Graduate Internship Programme. In a statement issued in Abuja by her Special Assistant, Paul Nwabuikwu, the minister said the programme was meant to increase the employability of the graduates by enhancing their skills. “The scheme targets up to 50,000 unemployed graduates in the 36 states of the federation and FCT. No fewer than 22,000 graduates have so far been placed on the programme,” Okonjo-Iweala said.

inc*st: Court Fixes March 5 For Trial Of Father Who Sexually Abused His 14-Year-Old Daughter

A Federal High Court in Lagos, on Wednesday, warned it would commence trial in a case against 50-year-old Yesiru Onajobi, standing trial for alleged inc*st. Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke adjourned the case to March 5, following the absence of a counsel for Mr. Onajobi. The accused, resident at Bogije St., Ibeju, in Lekki Lagos, is standing trial on a two-count charge of alleged carnal knowledge of his 14-year old daughter. He is being prosecuted by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Traffic in Persons, NAPTIP.
