Nigeria’s military claims it has destroyed the headquarters of Boko Haram in Gwoza, a town in northeast Nigeria. It was not possible to verify the victory that comes the day before presidential elections. The official Twitter account of the Nigerian Defence Headquarters announced “FLASH: Troops this morning captured Gwoza destroying the Headquarters of the Terrorists self-styled Caliphate.”

Election: FG appeals judgement stopping deployment of soldiers

Twenty-four hours after a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos declared that President Goodluck Jonathan lacked the constitutional powers to deploy members of the Armed Forces for security reasons during elections, the federal government has appealed the judgement. The government in a Notice of Appeal filed before the Lagos Division of the Court of Appeal, is urging the appellate court to dismiss the judgement of the lower court and the entire suit for lack of merit.
