‘The Shield’ Actor Michael Jace Murdered Wife In Front Of Their Children

Actor  Michael Jace, most known for his role as Detective Lowe on the “The Shield,”  was arrested on homicide charges after he shot his wife, April Jace, to death in front of their two children then called the police around 8:30pm to report the crime. “I shot my wife,” he said. April was found dead by police when they arrived to the couple’s Hyde Park neighborhood home. We are deeply disturbed by footage on  TMZ  that shows a Jace appearing calm and collected as he stared back at his home.

Oil marketers hike fuel price in Lagos, Ogun

Marketers have employed new tactics to evade the Federal Government’s directive on N97 per litre pump price for the Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) otherwise known as petrol, investigation by New Telegraph in Lagos and Ogun states has revealed. President Goodluck Jonathan set the regulated price for the product after the January 1, 2012, partial removal of fuel subsidy. While some of the marketers have adjusted their dispensing pumps to accommodate the N110 per litre price, others who have refused to adjust their pumps tell motorists to either comply with the new price or leave their premises. A survey of the filling stations showed that the Forte Oil filling station along Ijegun road in Lagos and many other filling stations in Ikotun, Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos are exploiting motorists. An undercover investigation by this newspaper showed that filling stations such as Fowobi filling station in Oju-ore, Ota, Iswat Petroleum, Florinkay, Faith and Marvelous along Itele road

BREAKING: Sanusi loses; Court declines jurisdiction in suit against Jonathan over suspension

A Federal High Court in Abuja has declined jurisdiction in a suit filed by the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Sanusi Lamido, challenging the powers of President Goodluck Jonathan to suspend him from office. In a judgment Tuesday, the court ruled it had no jurisdiction to hear the matter, saying the matter is a dispute between an employer and its employee. The National Industrial Court is in the best position to hear the matter, Justice Gabriel Kolawole ruled. The court had on April 8 reserved judgment till today after hearing the respondent counsel’s preliminary objection and Mr. Sanusi’s counsel’s originating summons, as well as the adoption of same. Mr. Sanusi had on February 24 challenged his suspension from office by the president and urged the court to reverse the decision. Multiple explosions rock Jos

There was a loud explosion in Jos, the Plateau State capital at about 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The explosion, believed to have been caused by a bomb, occurred around the ever busy Jos Main Market, between Railway Terminus and the temporary site of the Jos University Teaching Hospital. The explosion was followed by a thick smoke and is believed to have affected many shops and commercial vehicles. It is not known whether anyone was killed or injured. The explosion has however created tension in the area with cars colliding as drivers scampered for safety. Ambulance and other safety providers were seen rushing to the area. The cause of the explosion and casualty is yet to be ascertained. UPDATE : Another explosion sounded at about 3:20 PM around the same area just as our reporter was filing report of the first explosion to his editors.

Nsofor fires brace against Inter

Obinna Nsofor ended his season on a high note as he netted a brace to help Chievo Verona come from behind to record a 2-1 win over Inter Milan. Nsofor came off the bench for Dario Dainelli in the 72nd minute of the game, with Chievo already trailing the visitors by a 41st minute goal scored by Marco Andreolli. The Nigerian scored with his first touch of the game in the 73rd minute, after racing into the penalty area, before unleashing a shot into the far corner from a tight angle. Nsofor had a chance to double his tally six minutes later, but he fired his shot straight at Carrizo. The 27-year-old however scored in the 89th minute to put Chievo in front, and ultimately win the game after hitting a well-struck shot from outside the box which found its way into the bottom left corner of Carrizo's goal, and subject his former employers to a final day defeat.

20 injured as church building collapses

No fewer than 20 persons were injured on Monday when an uncompleted church building collapsed during downpour in Agudama-Epie, near Yenagoa. An eyewitness, Tonye Beregha, told the media in Yenagoa that the building belonged to the National Apostolic Church of Nigeria. “We heard a loud sound which we thought was that of thunder. But we later heard that the uncompleted building had collapsed, trapping many people under the rubbles” Beregha said. He said the downpour also destroyed roofs of many buildings in the state capital as well as felled some street lights on Sani Abacha expressway, causing heavy traffic gridlock in the area. The building, which collapsed at about 10h30, caused pandemonium as most of the victims went into the building for cover during the downpour. The Deputy Governor of the State, John Jonah, the Commissioner of Police, Hillary Okpara and a rescue team from Julius Berger, visited the scene.

Messi signs €20M contract

Enugu NLC schedules fasting, prayers for abducted girls

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Enugu State has slated May 21 and May 22 for fasting and prayers for the release of the kidnapped Chibok school girls. The chairman of the chapter, Chumaife Nze, said in a statement in Enugu on Monday that the two-day event was informed by the congress’ concern for the innocent school girls. “The Enugu chapter of the NLC has joined the country and the international community in the campaign: “Bring Back Our Girls,” the statement said. It added that the union had condemned in totality the spate of insurgency in the country, particularly in the North East of the country. According to the union, the shedding of blood is unacceptable to it and indeed barbaric and uncalled for. “It is a challenge we must rise up to,” it said while urging the government at all levels to do all in their powers to ensure the release of these girls.

Obama offers $50m to South Sudan refugees

  President Barack Obama announced Monday that the United States would offer an extra $50m to help tackle a growing refugee crisis spawned by fighting in South Sudan. The money will be sent to international and non-governmental organisations and be used to pay expenses of the State Department's Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration in the region, Obama said in a memorandum. "Months of conflict between the government of South Sudan and rebel forces have exacted a terrible toll on the people of South Sudan," said National Security Council spokesperson Caitlin Hayden. "More than 1.3 million people have been displaced, and the country is now at risk of famine unless humanitarian agencies are able to scale up relief efforts and access those in need."

Boko Haram will ‘negotiate with Chibok girls or use them as shields’ informants tell CNN

General Muhammadu Buhari has said  one “Mohammed Buhari” arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for scamming a woman, Mrs Florence Nwokocha, of N20 million in a ponzi scheme is not his adopted son as earlier speculated. According to a staement by  Jasper Azuatalam, Chairman of the “Buhari Vanguard”,  the tenuous link between the former head of state and the scammer in EFCC detention was aimed at smearing the general. The suspect, Mohammed Buhari,  was arrested over a transaction that has the trappings of voodoo investment scheme. He allegedly obtained N20 million from one Mrs Florence Nwokocha, purportedly to invest in a lucrative oil and gas business with promises of mouth watery returns to the investor. Borno Locals Write Jonathan, Say They Can Free Chibok Girls

For the first time after Boko Haram devout, lay sieged to their state, residents of the troubled Borno State, in the North East Nigeria, have forwarded a strongly-worded letter to President Goodluck Jonathan through the Joint Task Force (JTF) commander in the area, demanding a presidential permission to move into Chibok forest and free the over 234 teenage school girls kidnapped by members of Boko Haram Islamic sect last month. The group alleged that similar letters which they forwarded to Mr. President through the Borno State governor, Kashim Shettima, “are still pending at someone tables, so we don’t want to go through  the governor this time around.” The letter is dated May 17th, and a copy was made available to our Correspondent. According to the spokesperson to JTF, Lazarus Sule, the natives of  Borno State want to confront the insurgents. “They are saying, they are prepared to move into the forest and free the girls. They want presidential permission to do that.”
