Buhari Urged To Cancel FG-Sponsored Foreign Scholarships

Nigeria's Commonwealth Youth Council has pleaded with the president-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari, to cancel foreign scholarships in the country after he assumes power. The CYC chairperson, Ahmed Adamu said in London that the FG spent close to N100bn annually on foreign scholarships and it was causing a devaluation of the naira. He said, “This figure is extremely higher when adding the cost of other self-sponsored foreign education programmes and I am using this medium to call on the Nigerian President-elect to consider this as one of the immediate policies he will adopt in the first 100 days in office.

Gunmen In Police Uniforms Attacks Jonathan’s Aide House In Bayelsa

Suspected gunmen dressed in Mobile Police uniforms weekend invaded the private residence of the Senior Special Assistant on Domestic Affairs to President Goodluck Jonathan, Dr Waripamowei Dudufa, located behind the Tower hotel in Yenagoa carting away unspecified items. The gunmen, according to eyewitness account, repeatedly demanded to know the whereabouts of the Policemen guarding the house and when they were told they were not on duty, they ransacked the whole house and destroyed the safe close to Dudafa’s room.

Al-Shabab claims responsibility for attack on UN vehicle in Garowe, capital of Puntland, killing at least seven people. Photos circulating on social media websites showed several bodies in the torn-up UN bus [@Hornexpert115 via Twitter] At least seven people have been killed in an attack on a UN vehicle in Garowe, the capital of Puntland in northeastern Somalia, local security sources told Al Jazeera. Four UNICEF staff members were among the dead and four other staff members were in a serious condition, UNICEF said in a statement on Monday.

FG sacks Elegbeleye, appoints Yakmut

The Federal Government yesterday relieved the Director General of National Sports Commission (NSC), Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye, of his duties with immediate effect on the orders of President Goodluck Jonathan. National Mirror gathered that a Director in the NSC, Mr. Alhassan Yakmut, has also been directed by the Sports Minister, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, to assume office today as the Acting Director General of the Commission.

Ajon Ugboho, has called on the national chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, to toe the path of honour by resigning or face lawsuit over grave anti-party activities which caused the party’s loss in the 2015 general elections. Speaking with LEADERSHIP in Abuja yesterday, Hon. Ugboho said from the onset, Mu’azu had never shown commitment to the progress and success of the party and was involved in shoddy deals with the opposition, All Progressives Congress (APC), saying the national chairman and the likes of the political adviser to the president, Prof. Rufai Alkali were the architects of the downfall of the PDP and President Goodluck Jonathan.

Ayo Fayose, the governor of Ekiti state may be begging for forgiveness and suing for peace, but his body language and utterances suggests otherwise. 20 minutes after leaving a church service on Sunday, April 19, Fayose made a live broadcast on the Ekiti State Radio and Television, ESRT, where he told Ekiti people to defend their mandate from the APC lawmakers, who he claimed were coming to invade the state to impeach him today. During the governor’s live broadcast on the ESRT, he told the people to defend their mandate from the invading APC lawmakers and defend him against the alleged impeachment.
