A Federal High Court in Lagos has ruled that the Nigerian Armed Forces have no role in the conduct of elections in the country. The court relied on a recent Court of Appeal ruling that barred the use of soldiers in the conduct of elections, stating that it was a violation of Section 217(2)(c) of the Constitution and Section 1 of the Armed Forces Act.

Egypt's leader (l) signed the deal, despite expressing reservations Three African leaders have signed an initial deal to end a long-running dispute over the sharing of Nile waters and the building of Africa's biggest hydroelectric dam, in Ethiopia. The leaders of Egypt, Ethiopia and Sudan signed the agreement in Sudan's capital, Khartoum. Egypt has opposed the Great Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, saying it would worsen its water shortages. Ethiopia says the dam will give it a fairer share of Nile waters.

The Ebola outbreak in West Africa will be over by August, the head of the UN Ebola mission has told the BBC. Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed admitted the UN had made mistakes in handling the crisis early on, sometimes acting “arrogantly”. A year after the outbreak was officially declared, the virus has killed more than 10,000 people. The medical charity Medecins Sans Frontieres says a “global coalition of inaction” led to tragic consequences.

A "global coalition of inaction" contributed to world's deadliest Ebola outbreak, the medical charity Medecins Sans Frontieres says. Its report - a year after the outbreak was declared - suggests early calls for help were ignored by local governments and the World Health Organization. The charity says "many institutions failed, with tragic and avoidable consequences." Ebola has killed more than 10,000 people in the last 12 months.

West Bromwich Albion striker Brown Ideye's return to international football has been stalled by a 'minor injury' that has forced him out of the Nigeria squad for two friendly matches next week. World number one Novak Djokovic recovered from a second-set battle to beat Roger Federer 6-3 6-7 (5-7) 6-2 in the BNP Paribas Open final.
