NIGERIA’S performance so far at the on-going FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile has shown that given the right environment the country’s youths can hold their own against the best of their peers from other parts of the world. That was the submission of former national team captain, Christian Chukwu, following the Golden Eaglets 3-0 defeat of Brazil on Sunday to qualify for the semifinals of the Cadet World Cup.

No decision yet on power tariff hike – NERC Commission reviewing proposals from Discos

Contrary to reports of plans by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, to introduce a new electricity tariff that would see increased cost for power consumption with effect from the beginning of this month, the commission says the plan has not been concluded and that there is no decision yet on the matter. Describing reports on the plan as media speculation, Chairman of NERC, Dr. Sam Amadi, said the commission was only reviewing new proposals from electricity distribution companies or Discos for increase in the retail rates they charge to consumers. The retail rates, which covers a 10-year period, is being reviewed by NERC’s technical team to ascertain the authenticity of their details, Amadi stated.

NECA decries state of federal roads

NIGERIA Employers’ Consultative Association, NECA, has expressed concerns over the failed road networks across the country, stressing that it posed grave danger to the life of citizens and the economy at large. Director-General of NECA, Mr. Olusegun Oshinowo, in a statement, lamented that the worst hit were the 194,000-kilometre network of federal roads that had deteriorated over the years and cut off many states and communities.
