Kevin Durant’s Dirty Laundry Aired Out In Travel Agent Lawsuit

Image
NBA player  Kevin Durant  recently had his dirty little secrets aired out in a counter-lawsuit brought on by his ex-travel agent. The travel agent detailed how she set up several hotel rooms for KD and his entourage’s hookups. Durant filed a lawsuit against  Lynn Swanson  back in September of last year claiming that as his travel agent, she overcharged him for at least $500,000 for services she provided for him between 2007 and 2012. Swanson didn’t immediately respond to the suit, but she did file a countersuit this past March. In Lynn Swanson’s countersuit, she says she earned every bit of the money in question. She says she earned that money by dealing with all of Durant’s celebrity requests. Lynn Swanson says she fielded Durant’s late-night phone calls, las minute requests that needed to be carried out immediately, and booked hotel accommodations for quite a few of Durant’s lady friends. According to Swanson’s legal documents, on top of setting up KD’s freaky hookup locations,

Image
A body has been recovered by the Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU) of the Nigerian security forces suspected to be the suicide bomber of yesterday’s attack in Nyanya, Abuja. The charred body was recovered with charms and amulets, he must have used for protection, still strapped to his body. Also with him was a photo of a young boy suspected to be his son. The charms and amulets are typical of the type used by members of the terrorist group Boko Haram. Security sources also recovered useful leads with him, including a mobile phone. Eyewitnesses say they saw a red Volkswagen with four men drive into the park yesterday, whom after detonated the bomb also tried to escape before the explosion. Either way, security forces said that the suspected bomber, having conveyed the bomb to its destination, walked away to a location at the bus park where he ostensibly waited for the bomb to explode. Sub dives deeper in hunt for missing MH370

Image
The mini-sub searching for missing flight MH370 has reached record depths well beyond its normal operating limits, officials said Friday as it dived on its fifth seabed mission. With no results to show since the Boeing 777 carrying 239 people disappeared on 8 March, Australia's prime minister Tony Abbott has set a one-week deadline to locate the plane which is believed to have crashed in a remote area of the Indian Ocean west of Perth. Searchers have extended the hunt beyond the normal 4 500 metre depth range of the US Navy's Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) called Bluefin-21. "The AUV reached a record depth of 4 695 meters during mission four," the US Navy said. "This is the first time the Bluefin-21 has descended to this depth. "Diving to such depths does carry with it some residual risk to the equipment and this is being carefully monitored," a statement said. Australia's Joint Agency Coordination Centre (JACC) announced that the mini-sub had

Two worlds collide as Brazil players push for reform

Image
Rio de Janeiro - Brazil's old guard may hold sway with 73-year-old Marco Polo del Nero confirmed as the man to succeed octagenarian Jose Maria Marin as head of the Brazilian football Confederation. But if the game's hierarchy remains in place pressure to reform the domestic game is mounting from the bottom up via player pressure group Bom Senso (Common sense) FC. The group is pushing hard for a congested fixture list, comprising a packed national and state league program, to be reduced and for financial fair-play of the kind being proposed in Europe to be brought in along with a fixed pre-season break. - Subtle protest - Signs of subtle protest have been deployed, ranging from players standing with arms crossed for 30 seconds after kickoff or staging a mini-sit down or else simply spending the opening minute passing the ball from one half to the other back and forth. The group's determination to be heard has earned them some modest victories to date. They incl

Juve edge closer to scudetto, Roma lick wounds

Image
Juventus will look to a possible slip-up by closest challengers Roma at Fiorentina as the Turin giants begin the countdown to claiming a third consecutive Serie A title. Roma's faint hopes of a first scudetto since 2001 were kept in check on Monday when Juve restored their eight-point lead at the top with a comfortable 2-0 win away at Udinese. Antonio Conte's Juve side would be forgiven for hoping Roma, who on Thursday failed in their bid to reduce a three-match ban handed down to top scorer Mattia Destro, concede defeat away at a Fiorentina side which still has a mathematical chance of challenging third-placed Napoli for the league's final Champions League place. Such a scenario would put Juve, who host Bologna, 11 points ahead with four games remaining, and allow the title party preparations to begin. Roma coach Rudi Garcia, however, has refused to throw in the towel: "We're playing in Florence and on paper it's a difficult match, while Juve look l

In a statement issued in Lagos by its Interim National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party claimed its Governors were given the impression that the meeting had been called off, hence they did not attend. ''On Wednesday, the Presidency called the Chief Detail of the Kwara State Government to say that the meeting has been called off. On the basis of this information, which apparently got to other Governors under the aegis of the APC, our Governors did not attend. ''Now that the meeting has been held, it is incumbent on the Presidency to launch an investigation into the source of the call to the Kwara State Government and what the call was meant to achieve. ''Irrespective of the totally unfounded and absolutely irresponsible allega

Search extends to unsafe forest for abducted girls

Image
Able-bodied men from the town of Chibok have taken to the dangerous Sambisa Forest to search for more than 100 abducted girls and young women whom the military claimed to have freed from their extremist kidnappers, an education official said Thursday. Six more have managed to escape their captors on their own, bringing to 20 the number that are free, the education commissioner of Borno state, Musa Inuwo Kubo, told reporters. He spoke at a news conference where parents of the kidnapped students expressed their anguish over a Defense Ministry statement claiming to have freed all but eight of the students by Wednesday night. "The military had really gladdened our hearts. But now we are left in confusion," said Lydia Ibrahim, whose three cousins are among the kidnapped. "These girls are innocent, we plead that government should do all that they can to help us." The Defense Ministry spokesman, Maj. Gen. Chris Olukolade, had said in a statement late Wednesda

Buhari Threatens To Sue PDP Over Boko Haram Allegation

Image
A former head of state and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to retract its wild accusation linking him with the Boko Haram terrorist acts, tender an unreserved public apology to him or face a legal action. In a statement he personally signed in Kaduna on Thursday Gen. Buhari said: ”I cannot sit back and allow my image, and that of my political party be smeared by falsehood in the name of politics. ”He said the widely publicized and very serious allegations made against him by the PDP and its spokesman, Olisa Metuh, to the effect that his utterances were responsible for the current state of insecurity and terrorism bedeviling Nigeria, were absolutely without basis ”To support his claim, Mr. Metuh engaged in twisted logic and outright distortion – which he called facts – in which he said that I, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, beckoned on my ‘supporters to go on lynching spre

The Five Lessons of Good Friday

Image
The sufferings and death of Jesus, which Christians commemorate on Good Friday, may seem far removed from our everyday lives. After all, it is almost impossible to imagine that anyone reading this essay will ever be crucified. (On the other hand, persecution of Christians continues in many parts of the world even today.) So what can the story of Jesus's crucifixion, as recorded in the Gospels almost 2,000 years ago, teach us about our own lives? One. Physical suffering is part of life. Unlike philosophies or belief systems that suggest that suffering is more or less an illusion, Jesus says this from the cross: suffering is real. As a fully human person, Jesus suffered. On Good Friday, he was beaten, tortured and then nailed to a cross, the most agonizing way the Roman authorities had devised for capital punishment. There, according to the Gospels, he hung for three hours. Victims of crucifixion died either from loss of blood or, more commonly,
